Would you guys buy knives, comprised of various parts (one offs) if Kershaw assembled left over pieces from production runs into functional knives and sold them for what they thought was a fair price?

For example - they end up with a green scale, blue scale, and S30V blade...and turn it into a Blur...

Or a Damascus blade, some Orange County Handles, and turn it into a Leek.

The catch is, you dont know what you're going to get...they just say "here's the price" and ship you whatever you pay for.

I know from a regular production stand point, this is a stupid idea...BUT...it might be a way to generate some cool combos from left over parts, clear out the warehouse, and put some unique knives into the market...

I personally would take the gamble and see what showed up.

What about you guys?

Na. I'm too picky, so I would never like what they sent.

Unless the idea really took off, the knives would have little to no resale value, so you'd be stuck with it.

I guess I would do it........ If they could promise me it would end up as a black on black, non-serrated JYD.:D

What if you ended up with something killer like a Ti back scale, groove G-10 front scale ZDP Leek?

Gotta give our Oregonians due confidence...they would assemble knives that either fit the price tag or were cool and appealing...Im sure of it.

Thomas can you confirm if my mythical "extra parts" even exist for this zany idea?

If anything this might be an idea for some giveaways in the future...

Hell yes.

Price be willing, I would take a gamble.

As long as I could pick the model. The rest of the stuff could be by chance.

Now I kind of want a blue/green s30v blur....

Zany is quite right. I'll squash this pipe dream right here.

Parts, or "whip", are produced for regular production knives when needed, or are always built into a boutique run. There are never any extra blue Blur handles or LE leftovers parts/pieces.

I'm telling you guys, you're never going to get me to commit to a custom shop no matter how you spin it. I think the idea is cool though.

Btw, if there would be extra parts (and I said there wasn't), I'd build them out and be playing with them in my office.:D.....wait, I already do that. That micarta/ATS-34/ZDP-189 clad Spec Bump is quite awesome.

Rats! Perhaps in a weak moment........

Micarta ATS-34 ZDP-189 clad Spec Bump? :confused::eek:

Hand finished by Tim no less.:D

Poop. :D

Am I that transparent? ;)

Actually, Im more talking along the lines of someone putting together whatever the heck is laying around and selling them to us crack heads for a few bucks. It would be a more like a recycling bonus system for your "above and beyond" assemblers!

So what happens if someone's actually crazy enough to use a one of one ? and then needs it serviced? with what parts / from where? There are probably easier ways for a manufacturer to loose money.

Obviously they would be sold as "blem" warranty. Torson bars, tune ups, screws, no other warranty. Non-production or QC approved knives dont have the regular warranty.

I think it would be a pretty coll idea, you would never know what to expect until it showed up on your door step. Also that is one sweet spec bump , what, if any other production model folders use micarta for handles?
