Hey guys and gals! This may or may not be identified by the general population here. This small pin was found under my desk where I’ve disassembled some 40 or so knives in the last 8 months. No idea where it came from. Does this look familiar to anyone? I included a .38 for size reference. So which knife do I have to take apart again to add this part to?? Thanks in advance!BDFCFD4F-D173-4719-AF66-B1C598BA1EFC.jpeg

Thats a cotter pin. I highly doubt it belongs to any knife. For one thing, it has never been used or it would have a kink in it from being unbent so that it could be removed.

Typical usage:

Looks like a common cotter pin to me, are you certain it came from a knife? Lol, you should see my shop. Last year I spent six months in a Calif. V.A. Hospital and my shop is still a total disaster, random knife parts also.:(:)

it’s really thin for a cotter pin. Maybe it’s not from a knife, but I’ve never taken anything else apart or worked on anything else at this desk.

It could possibly be from your desk, or perhaps your chair?

I appreciate the input, didn’t think they made cotter pins this tiny and springy. I’m a mechanic by trade and the smallest cotter pins I’ve seen are easily ten times thicker. Don’t know where it could’ve come from so I’ll just stick it to a magnet for eternity.

They do make little cotter pins for all kinds of things.

Is it rounded spring steel? Or is it a bit flat on the outer part? If you bend it does it stay bent?

If I bent it, it bends in a radius but doesn’t kink

Do you take firearms apart at the desk? Do you dump out coffee cans of oddball nuts and bolts?

Back when at the race track some folks would spot a competitor they didn't like doing an engine overhaul and wander by their pit and drop a random nut, bolt, washer in the work area and then sit back and enjoy.

As am I, and I see small cotter pins all the time. Here's a couple just laying around on my work bench next to a .40 cal round.

It's definitely a cotter pin but who knows where it came from. Probably been laying there undetected for a while.

I have a wide assortment of cotter pins both smaller & thinner than this one. Pretty sure it's just a cotter pin.

I have never taken anything else apart at the desk besides knives. It feels like a spring of some sort. It does look and feel brand new. Smells clean too. Off to the magnet it goes. Thanks guys.
