Hi guys,

I have a plain edge Columbia River Knife & Toolworks Random Leek (1660TCKT). From doing a little research on it I have run across guys saying things like, "Mine's from September 2004," (that's just an example).

But I have gone over mine closely and I sure can't find any date markings. Are there date markings on these? I'll be damned if I can see 'em.

Can someone provide me with a little in depth info about this knife? I remember ordering it and paying (I think) $125 or so and thinking I was being extravagant.

Ater the UPS man dropped it off, I opened the box and thought, "Pretty damned nice. Keeper," or something close to that. And then I put it away in a gun cabinet because I was already wearing a plain ol' 1660CKT.

Why is this knife considered so special? It really is a cool knife. It just does seem to say, "Class" when you look at it.

But looks ain't everything. What makes it so desireable? Sure, SV30, right? But what else? What's it coated with and so on?

And you knew I'd get around to this one... What the heck it is worth to a collector? I've been looking to see if I could find any recent sales for comparison purposes and I couldn't find any.

Thanks,

Mike

Now that the Random Leek is being produced again, the CK&T is LESS valuable in my opinion. I prefer the grey coating and scalloped serrations on the new RL. That being said, the CK&T is worth whatever someone else is willing to pay. The retail is $130 I think, which is all it should be worth.

I have 4 of the CKT Randoms and none have the date marked on them. It was extravagant at the time because it was the only way you could get the Random blade and S30V on the Leek at that time. As far as it's worth, it's just like anything else.....whatever someone is willing to pay for it and what it's worth to you. May just be me but I wouldn't trade one of my CKT's for 2 of the new ones just for the fact it was the 1st Random Leek. Just as nygiant said, it's worth is about what you payed for it....that being said, I still wouldn't let mine go for $130 because there worth more then that to me.

Hey fan,

I wasn't thinking of selling it. It really is a classy knife. I suppose if things got tough or something I would sell it eventually but I have a lot more stuff that would go first.

And nygiantsfan3342, do you own one of them or have you just seen pictures or maybe fondled one owned by someone else?

I figure you would have said, "I own both and I prefer the grey coating... ." But you didn't say that so I don't think you own one.

And I also think since you don't own one you just had to say, "Now that the Random Leek is being produced again, the CK&T is LESS valuable in my opinion."

Your envy is showing, nygiantsfan3342. And your opinion, like the knife, is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I wouldn't give you two cents for your opinion. I think your dead wrong.

People are holding these knives. They ain't selling them. You say the retail is $130? Try to find an original for sale, in mint, NIB condition anywhere, retail or anywhere else. I looked. They just ain't around, pal.

And I'll bet you $500, straight up, that if I put it on Ebay, I could get a minimum of $200. Care to take the wager? I'm dead serious.

Here's how we'll do it:

We pick a neutral party, a moderator on this forum say, and each of us will Paypal him $500. He gets 5% or $50 for "holding" the money.

I'll put the knife up for aution in Ebay for a week and start the bidding at $100. If it sells for less than $200, you get the "escrow" Paypal money. If it sells for $200 or more, I get the dough.

Want to put your money where your mouth is, nygiantsfan3342? I know I'll win. And yes, I will sell it to realize a $545 profit. That would be your $475 (don't forget we each will pay the moderator $25) plus the $75 premium over the original $125 I paid for it.

C'mon big man. Let's have us a little wager. Everything's on the up and up. We have plenty of witnesses.

Moderators, can one of you guys use a fast $50 for holding a grand for a week?

I hate guys who have to knock something because they don't or can't own one. I really do.

Seriously, from reading nygiantsfan3342's response, i could not find anywhere were he was being disrespectful. It was all his opinion and nothing directed at you at all, Mykem. Bladeforums.com absolutely doesnt need that type of attitude here.

I'm pretty sure that gambling is not allowed here at BladeForums, and I don't know of any of us moderators who would get involved in any type of wager. Sorry...:). Also, please play nice. Thank-you.

Sorry, it was that ol' wrong way rub. And I'm a sensitive guy as you can tell, hee hee.

:yawn::yawn::yawn:

Take a look at my Leeks sir. I envy nothing! :D I have picked up a few more since this picture was taken. Don't know why you are directing the hostility at me, but I can take anything you can dish out.

I bought the Random Leek at the top left on Ebay for $80 last year. The gentleman I purchased it from is also a member here on BF. I feel like I contribute a lot to the Kershaw Forum and to BladeForums, both financially (I pay for my membership here), and with my limited knife knowledge. I never claimed to be a collector, but I understand supply and demand. If you can get more than $130 on Ebay for a 4 year old Random Leek, congratulations. I happen to have both Random Leeks and prefer the newer model for the scalloped serrations and the Kershaw logo instead of the CK&T. My "opinion" which you so kindly insulted, is that MOST people wouldn't pay more money for a knife than they had to. Before the Random Leek became readily available, the CK&T RL would have been more of a "collectible". But now, someone that wants to buy a Leek with a reverse tanto S30V blade with frame lock and scratch resistant coating doesn't need to scour the internet praying to find the CK&T RL. They are everywhere. Thanks Kershaw!!! We asked for and got a great knife that is easy to find.

Sorry for responding to your thread. You showed me...

After reading this, it might have seemed snooty. But you asked a question and I answered. I never attacked you though. I should mentioned that I view knives as TOOLS, not collectibles. Though God knows I collect them!:D

If someone were looking for a Random Leek to use as an EDC, I just don't see them paying $130 for a 4 year old RL, regardless of its condition, when they can go to NewGrahamKnives and get one for $85 +/-

I can honestly say a picture is worth more then a thousand words. Nice collection Jeremy.

I wonder which side of the fence the "envy" is on now. ;)
