hi,

i think i need a random leek.

anyway, i went to Chesapeake Knife and Tool's site to check out a random leek.

i clicked on their pic to enlarge it for a better view and got a pop-up screen with the same tiny photo they had on the page.

would someone be kind enough to post a pic or two (both sides) of this knife?

and i know all steels are not created equally but does the s30v justify doubling the price of this knife in 440a?

and how about the blade configuration off the random?

i like the "standard" leek configuration better, or at least my eye does.

what are the pros and cons of the standard leek blade and that of the random leek?

thanks,

mike

Hey,

I'm afraid I don't have a picture, but perhaps I can give you some insight into the rest of the question. I worked at CK&T for about two years and may very well go back (and for the record, I don't know why their website is so unimpressive, they display about 1/20 of the products they sell.) But that's neither here nor there.

For one thing, part of the extra cost is the Tungsten DLC coating on the blade and handle. Is that a necessity? I don't know, it depends on what kind of conditions your knife is subjected to. But it's nice looking, super-easy to clean, and very durable.

Then there is the blade, itself. I have a tough time trying to see the picture of the knife with "fresh eyes", but I always really liked the blade shape. It's a reverse tanto, so it has the strength of a tanto blade, without the interruption in the cutting edge.

The difference in the steels has probably been addressed, in some form or another, in other threads. For me, it was my first experience with S30V, and it really left an impression (in fact, I think it left a scar.) Objectively, the knife is a nice piece overall, and is competitively priced for any other knife with the same steel.

Granted, it's not my money to throw around, but I think you would be very pleased with it. Hope I've been of some assistance.

It's the one on the top. It's my favorite Leek variant that's out right now. Premium steel, nice coating. Definitely a good dollar value.

my random leek is one of my two "keep forever" knives, along w/my M2 mini-AFCK. The leek is an excellent design in general, and I find the the reverse tanto of the random to be my favorite shape for a small utility EDC.

So these are Leek's but with a different blade shape and S30V? That is great news. Kershaw really seems to be taking good shots at the higher end market lately. To substitute my lack of buying the Spec Bump, I might get one of these with my para.
