Random Leek!?

I'm gearing up to buy a new knife and the list is long. I like a cheap neck knife sheath for the Leek I saw on NGK and I've always loved the Random Leek.

People talk about getting them for 80 bucks, but I can only find them for 125ish. What am I missing?

Also, is it a tungston coating or is it TiNi? It looks tini ish. Other than tini, I hate black coatings...but I haven't tried Tungston....it'll have to be REALLY tough, as I like my expensive knives to look good and actually do work at the same time. Is it tough enough? I'm not like, abusive with my knifes, but my Black benchmades get little streaks even cutting through cardboard. Drives me nuts.

Will the same neck knife sheath work for this leek as it does the normal Leek?

I'd get the normal leek, but I really don't like how the blade profile looks...I can handle semi wharncliffes, but the full blown ones just aren't for me.

There are just so few comments and photos returned by search....any good photos of yours would be really helpful...especially trying to be reflective so I can get a better appreciation for the black finish.

The only place that I have seen them for $80 or less has been on E-bay, and they have been few and far between. The coating is Tungsten DLC and has held up very well on my Random, no scratches on the blade with regular use. The neck sheath should work as the Random Leek and Leek are the same configuration, just different materials. Sorry, don't have the capability to send pics. Overall the knife has treated me very well. I use it on a regular basis but do not abuse it as I have plenty of other inexpensive knives for that!

the coating is definitely tougher than on a BM. I'm selling mine right now, have used it for ~2 years and the finish shows use but is not worn off at all (it's combo-edge, dunno if that's a deal-killer . . . .)

Well, darn, I was really looking for a plain edge, merely for aesthetics. On most knives I don't mind 50/50s, but the blade profile just looks so great. In any case, why not send some photos to b.cook@tcu.edu and what you were thinking about receiving for it and we'll talk. The thing is, I really like the Leek, even the normal one, but I can't stand its blade profile...so a 50/50 might overcome it anyway. I don't mind knives that show a little use, it just means I'm less afraid to put the first mark on it myself.
