Thought I’d share a few more random pics of autumn from the river gorge and a pretty chilled out hawk.

The first pics are from a short hike up to a shelter rock that I like to sit under and meditate. It’s one that has a little water fall beside it and little stream running beside it, but both get larger after heavy rains. We’ve had some really nice colors this autumn.

Then these are shots from down in the river gorge. Some more nice colors to see, and a chilled out Coopers Hawk that didn’t mind having his picture taken quite a few times. He landed in a tree near me in a clearing, then flew away for a bit.

Then he came back again.

Mocking birds have some balls, because this little guy kept bugging the crap out of the hawk and then just flew away.

Then the hawk sat there a few, then relocated himself to a higher limb and continued to observe the grassy meadow. Watching him sort of hop up to the higher limb was pretty cool.

Then when the time was right off it went into the meadow. It was really cool watching the hawk do a near 180 degree turn on a dime right on top of his prey. It was at a distance and a blur of motion when it caught its prey and the pictures of it flying off sucked, but it looked like it caught a small field mouse. Not something you get to observe every day so I thought it was pretty cool.

Then some more pics from the area as the sun started down. I found another persimmon tree :)

Thanks Pit, glad you enjoyed them. Yeah, the hawk was one of those rare moments in time.

Actually I have been going back and forth between this one, the Hunter I got from Andy, and another knife I picked up a while back. In the last thread (last outing) I carried the Hunter. But yes, I am digging this knife very much. There is also a story behind it. I had been wanting an English made bushcraft knife for years but the prices on most were out of my range for what I would get in return. Then a friend in the UK, whom I have been talking to for a few years now, put this one up for sale and I got it. So, you see that while I love the knife anyway, it was also a long time in the coming, and then it coming from a friend (one I've yet to actually meet and probably never will) who had carried it for some time it has a appeal for me on multiple levels

Awesome pics mist. That hawk is amazing, I have seen them catch squirrels and birds. I seen one one day as it took a sparrow out of a flock flying by, it was pretty cool to see. Thanks TA

Thanks man, glad you liked the post. Hawks are amazing to watch, first time I've had a wild one let me get that close and just sit there like that. At times he was only about ten feet away. He'd look down at me and then go back to looking over the meadow. I must have taken a hundred shots of him or more.

Great shots as usual Brian! Man, that is a beautiful area...such a peaceful little creek.

Thanks Rock, glad you enjoyed the post.

I like that little area, the trickling of the water has a calming effect and I can relax there.

Man those are some great pictures! I really like this one. Just think about how many other men have probably sat right there thinking the same things.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked them. There is no telling how many people have sat there and pondered life.

Thanks guys, glad you liked the pics!

excellent post..as usual!!! that hawk must be a 'ham'!

Thanks man, glad you enjoy them. Yeah, I was starting to think the same thing. I got the feeling that mine wasn't the first camera he'd ever seen. He was really chilled out. Every time that mocking bird came near him he just fanned it away with his wings. I could almost put words to it like "dude, seriously get off me" in a relaxed non-raised voice. The mocking bird finally just flew off when I walked up to the last tree I shot photos in but the hawk just sat there. He'd look down at me sometimes and then go back to looking around. It was one of those rare moments I was fortunate enough to capture.

Fabulous pictorial. I felt the calm serenity through the images. The hawk is gorgeous. Thank you for sharing!

Fantastic stuff Mistwalker. Those colours are popping and the hawk shots. WOW! Also, love the reflections of trees and clouds on the water like that and not to mention the moon. What an amazing photoshoot!

Thanks Rocky, I was hoping to capture some of the serenity I was picking up from the trickling water in the pools and share it in the thread.

Thanks Ken, we have had some really nice colors this year. Getting the hawk shots was a major stroke of good luck, and I love to capture reflections. The moon is something I am always drawn to sit and stare at. Later on that night there really a really nice, and huge, ring around the moon. It's funny but the entire shoot was purely accidental. I was headed to another area to do some work and just happened to see my brother sitting on the side of the river just watching the water. I stopped to talk to him for a minute, saw a hawk circling a ridge not too far away and got out the camera to try to capture it. We talked for a few and then he went home. I just started walking around the area taking photos and this thread is made of my favorites from that shoot.

I did learn something though because he had a range finder with him. I had always thought the river was about 200 yards wide at that point, but I learned that it is actually 247 yards. That would be diagonally from the lower right to the upper left in the below photo.
