speaking of the double fullered chitlangi short sword project... its very close in nature to the bhutan sword, wich i am a big, big fan of. having handled the bhutan sword, the chitlangi short sword looks like it would be excellent for chopping.

and i happen to have something of a rarity, on 2 levels - a 9/16" thick bhutan swords. patangs arent ultra rare, but they certainly arent common, and 9/16" is pretty hard to come by (very pleased with this one :D (thank you yandu :D:D ))

the only thing that i plan on doing to this is thinning out the handle near the bottom portion, because it stays thick from top to bottom. my normal bhutan sword tapers a little towards the bottom, and it effects the grip in a positive way when using it two handed, and when using the choked down one handed grip for more power. that wont take more then 10 minutes of sanding though.

the compairson shots are of the thick bhutan sword, the normal bhutan sword, and my busse hogsjtacle, wich by all means is a big heavy thick knife.

the thicker patang has a more pronounced fuller then the normal one (wich is very slight), wich is why i find it similar in nature to the chitlangi short sword.

and randomly, some shots of the fuller of my falcata, as well as the carvings on the sheath panels. (comparison shot = quarter+ruler)

and heres a 25" ganga ram :D sure, its huge, but compared to my newly retreived (thank you very, very, very much big bob) 30" ang khola i custom ordered from uncle bill, its light and agile in the hand :)

Nice looking pics Seth. Glad that the 30" AK safely made it back to its true owner.

Awesome pix of rare HI blades. The falcata carving compares closely with mine. The bhutan swords rock....

Many thanks.

Geez Seth. Great pics. Oh, and I guess the knives are..... Wonderful too.

Be careful not to kick one of those beauties. They probably aren't picky about what they cut. :D

weights =

30" ang khola - 5lbs 4oz (84oz)
25" ganga ram - 3lbs 5oz (53oz)
thick patang - 2lbs 13oz (45oz)
falcata - 2lbs 8.5oz (40.5)
standard patang - 2lbs 6oz (38oz)
for reference, my uddha sword weighs 2lbs 3oz (35oz), with the additional gaurd i put on it

the thick patang is a heavy blade, but its counter balanced some by its long handle, and the same can be said of the 30" ang khola ( sort of). the ganga ram has a one handed grip, and it really keeps everything forward, so you feel the 3lbs 5oz for everything its worth.

the standard patang is right next to my 20" siru as far as general usability. its fast and easy in the hand, but has enough heft to chop and split whatever you need it to. it will wear you down slower then an 18" ang khola, but its right next to it in weight (if not generally heavier). (though, that depends some on the technique used :) )

thats next to a series of HI blades, with a busse shba on the far right (with the karda of the large one from the far left), and on the far far left is a khukuri house "buffalo" khukuri. a 42" gelbu special style single fullered blade that weighed around 6 and a half pounds.

the second photo is of a terror monkey battle mistress laying on the front section of the 30" ang kholas blade.

these are old photos, but it hasnt really changed since then. summer homework piled on top of having to edit 600 wedding photos is killing me right now, otherwise i'd take/put up new photos

Nice pics Seth! Glad you got your big blade back. I remember when you got it from Uncle Bill.

I have a 26.5" CAK that weighs 72 oz. (the same one as in your pic in fact), and is close enough to 30 that I didn't go for it. It is almost too heavy for me as is. I have a regular 45 oz. "Father AK" that is 25", and my largest Ganga Ram is 24.5" and also 45 oz. That was that smooth antler one, and BigJim got the same model about the same time in neem. Only 30"ers I have are a Kobra and a Sirupate. The knives have tended to lighten a bit over time.

Very cool knives, and having two versions of the Patang is neat. That thick one is the one you use to pry open your car door when you've locked your keys inside! (-:

That was my first thought as well. I don't think I'd be running around in bare feet with those sharp beuties that close.

Great pics! Thanks for sharing. The falcata is on my 'I want someday' list.
