Hey guys,

Realize going off on a tangent here, but have you guys noticed that there's a quite a bit of system lag when you're making posts?

Can't remember when it started happening, but for me personally, at least a month. When I write a reply and click on reply/submit button, sometimes it'll hang and the chrome browser will ask me whether I want to stay in the page.

Wondering whether that's why I'm seeing double posts from people too....?

Just curious whether you guys are experiencing the same thing.

Josh

BF is paid hosting for knifemakers.. with that said, I am wondering if they offer multiple tiers of performance for their clients... if so, it probably costs more money :/ for Andy & crew, seeing that the number of sharks in the water grows (exponentially) month by month, that could be the performance hit some of us have been observing.

yeah that makes sense, I mean it's a minor nuisance at worst personally, was just curious if others have been seeing it too.

I have experienced the same thing exactly. When it asked if you want to stay on the page or leave, I click leave. If I don't, then I end up with a double post.

As a general rule on any lengthy post, I always pre-type it Word or Pages, save it, then copy and paste in the quick reply box. I have lost too many posts and PM's that I typed directly in the system that I don't trust it to work when I need it.

yeah that's a good idea. I'd be pretty mad if I were writing a knife review or something and lost it.

I'm having the same experience here as reported above. Seems like it started happening several weeks ago. I agree with Phil in that if you get the "want to stay on page or leave" message after posting its best to click on "leave" to avoid a double post.

I've had the same problem as well, for a week or two now I think (guesstimate).

But clicking 'leave' like Comprehensivist says usually works out for me.

I just hope it doesn't slow down the sharking process this Friday...

Thanks for the replies guys, I guess at least I know it's not just me (sounds like it's a forum-wide issue? not just isolated to FB? not sure as I just play on the sub). Thanks for the links Kirk, was kinda funny to see double posts on the thread about double post issues.

There has been some discussion on the topic in the Technical Support and Help section of the forum. It has been a site-wide issue for a few months. Bladeforums just receives so much traffic that the current hosting service cannot keep pace with BF's growing requirements. Fixing the problem requires a more expensive hosting solution. How much so, I have no idea. I would guess though that BF is at a point where the next step up in hosting services is a substantial one.

It's not just you. The double posting issue is not that big of an deal with the 60 sec flood posting limit, unless it takes longer than the 60 seconds to get the leave/stay on page prompt. It can leave you worrying on Fridays trying to shark knife though.

Forum performance does take a hit on Friday with the constant refreshing. There have been a few times that I hit refresh and the page is slow to load. By the time the page loads, the Friday posting is up and there are already numerous replies.

I'm getting the same double posting issue no matter if I'm using a phone or laptop .. with several different browsers. I would reckon its a vBulletin software issue and no patch has been offered.

I think most of us have experienced that. It is probably the only reason I still have a few bucks left to eat. It might be a blessing in disguise. ;)

As far as the leave page and general overall performance goes, I get the same thing running safari.

Yeah, the slow loading is another thing I've noticed, but that symptom seemed relatively logical/straightforward to me as it'd consistently happen on Fridays during the shark fest. The lag with posting though seems to happen to me in a random fashion, so was thinking it can't be all attributed to traffic. Though not an IT guy myself, I work with IT people as part of my job, and performance issues in my experience always seem to be difficult to assess, so I feel for the admins (or whoever are in charge of this whole thing).

Bladeforums has faced similar growing pains several times in the past. Those times prompted things such as restricting certain functions and content to paying members only, higher membership fees, and allowing advertisements all in an effort to offset the rising costs of hosting the site. Only Spark knows for sure, but I know a site with this much traffic can't be cheap.

My advanced search feature has been messed up for a few weeks. The format is scattered all over the page.

This sits on the top of the page:
