My safe where I keep my knives, guns, valubles etc. has been soaking my dessicant. I have to re-charge it once, maybe twice a week. Does anyone know why my safe has so much moisture. It is brand new, only had it about 1 month. I live in NC, not humid and I do not leave it open. Is this just because it's new and it will go away eventually or should I just get a powered dessicant and say done with it. Any suggestions?

I use ine of the "Gloden Rods" in mine, kind of a litte heater. It has worked for years no issues and I live 1 mile from the ocean.

It's a fire safe, isn't it. Fire safes are lined with a plaster-like material that holds water. When there's a fire the water evaporates and keeps the contents cool, but the humidity in a fire safe is always high and the contents tend to rust.

I know this is an older thread, but - THANK YOU, Cougar Allen! I am searching for a safe for my collection, and I was looking at the "fireproof" ones, because I thought they'd offer "better protection". I am so glad I read this! I'd hate to invest in a big safe, only to have it ruin my collection with rust!
