OK, this isn't really news, and I have no questions or feedback about the current models. But it was very positive long-term feedback.
On Wednesday, after a paddling lesson, I went into the kayak shop for some water. I noticed that the clerk had a Spydie knife in his pocket. A little hesitantly, I asked him which model he had, and he happily took it out and showed it to me.
It was a Rescue model, and he said he'd had it for 10 years. It had the draining hole on the side, and the steel was G-2 (=GIN-1?) I didn't cut anything with it but the blade looked clean and sharp.
He never got any rust on it. A friend of his, who always takes one on the water, has.
The only part that was ever damaged was the plastic pocket clip. (It got brittle and snapped when he was out in sub-zero temperatures.) Spyderco replaced it with a metal clip (and sharpened the blade) for free.
