I had a guy come up to my table today at the gun and knife show in Jackson, MI and he said something that started me thinking. He said "You're knives ain't pretty, are they." and then walked away. Well , it got me thinking. What is pretty? Is pretty a wood or bone handle? Or is it a blade with a mirror polish. To me ,what makes a knife pretty isn't these things, but the function and usefullness of the knife. That's what draws me to a Busse. The blade designs are functional and without unneeded bells and whistles. The handles are tough and feel like were made for your hand. The steel is like an Abrams tank. The coating is too slick for words.
When you put these all together you get an awesome piece of equipment. Someone once told me that you know you have the right sword when it feels like it's an extention of yourself. When I hold one of my Busses, that's the feeling I get. So to me, when I look at a Busse, I see one hell of a beautiful knife. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Some guy once said, "beauty is in the performance".

An oldie but goodie is "speed's fine, but accuracy's final".

Getting the job done is priority 1.
They're beautiful to me, too.

I just got my first E model, a NO, and am amazed that Jerry was thoughtful enough to design a knife just for me. Wish it hadn't taken me so long to find out about it.

Greetings, Andrew!
Well said, well spoken words...
My Sword is like an extension of myself; otherwise using it would involve wasted motion. Now i have VAL, my Valentine Prize, & it, too, gives me that ~extension as if part of me~ idea. It is rather difficult however, explaining to people why i always have a black knife in my hand...!
"Pretty" or not, i'll take Busse over anything i've seen. Probably will attempt to get rid of my other knives, if that means anything.
I suppose the maxim: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is really true when you're be-holdin' onto a Busse knife.

"Pretty" is malleable; a Busse knife is not.
Random Thoughts reprise... Good thread.

Reality.

Take a "Pretty knife, use it to clear brush, cut rope, re-sharpen it and carry it daily. What happens to the re-sale value?

Do the same with a Busse knife and the value remains intact and even in some cases, especially a variant, the value increases.

You would only get the same increase in re-sale value with a few, certain knives by a few, certain knifemakers. Most of whom are dead. Then those would be strictly collectibles and not use knives.

The term "pretty used in conjunction with a Busse would be "pretty darn tough."

Basiclly there is only one thing wrong with a Busse knife.

hello everyone,
I just thought that I would throw in my own 2 cents! I purchased a my first busse, a lean mean street, only a few months ago. I had read an article about them a year before I had ever seen them. When I finally did get the chance to see one, it was the looks that drew my attention. I did not learn about the functionality of the knife until I spoke with andrew at the wolverine knife collectors show at the novi expo center in Mi. These knives are truely works of art both in the looks (cosmetics) and in the functionality departments. Keep up the fine work Jerry.

Andrew, I was curious, did the guy say how long he had worked for Cold Steel! It sounds as though he was fairly ignorant, I mean come on, ain't pretty, are to!

When you really need a knife you can depend on... when your life and well being could hang in the balance... Busse knives are the most beautiful pieces of cutlery in the world! My LMS travels with me everywhere I go. Sometimes it rides in a sheath on my belt. Sometimes it rides on a sheath strapped to my pack. But it's always there!

My feelings on Busse Beauty are based on the same thing that happened to me in Germany re: the whaletail, extended wheelwell Porsche Turbo-Carrera. When I first saw the car I thought to myself, "What a funny looking car. It looks like scoops of ice cream melting. Not very pretty, is it?" Then one day a Turbo-Carrera passed me on the autobahn like I was standing still, even though I was cruising along at about 115 mph. It passed me, ducked into my lane, and was gone like a shot with absolutely no swaying of the car. It was perfectly executed, laterally precise motion done at very high speed. In that instant, the light went on in my head telling me what the car really is about and I thought, "Now THAT is a beautiful car."

Pretty = eye candy. Beauty = performance.

Busse blades may not be pretty, but they are very, very beautiful.

Yours in nuclear aesthetics,
Greg

To combine two sayings, "All show and no go stays on the porch."

"Pretty" knives should be on shelves, or in fancy boxes and displayed as "art". For those who are into that, that's fine. Andrew, it sounds like your new friend is one of these.

Quel dommage. He'll never realize how good a Busse really is.

Not many people think that Glock pistols are pretty either....so I wonder why they (and Busse knives) sell so well????

Oil the handles, polish the brass tubes, then lay out whatever you own in a row and tell me they aren't "pretty".

Then take one outside, beat the snot out of a piece of wood or whatever, put it back in the lineup and appreciate the beauty in the performance.

Busse Extreme Performance.
