This past holiday, I was spending time with my extended family when my cousin needed a knife for some food prep. He whipped out a Benchmade Infidel and went to work. I have spent many years with him but had no clue he loved knives. After that we spent the rest of the time talking knives. Pretty cool. Has this happened to any of yall?

A couple of years ago, I had a coworker whom I discovered was a knife knut. Too bad he left, that was fun for awhile.

My favorite story is about a fella I introduced to Spyderco knives last year. He got pretty enthused by them and bought two or three, even going so far as to give a Ladybug to his wife of some 30 years. When he gave it to her, he apologized for giving her a guy-gift, but said he thought she might find it useful. She looked him square in the eye and said, "I LIKE knives."

So, there ya go. You never know where you will find another knife knut.

Found out my cousin is a knife collector, he has some older BM's that I'd never seen in person before.

I had a co-worker who's father was P.I. He carried and OTF microtech that was crazy. I showed him my Endura and and he gave a nod that said "Good knife, but I've seen better.". I saw him cutting boxes with BM940 and asked to check it out. That was the day I found out about the axis-lock. I decided I wanted a benchmade. The search I did for details on the brand, the lock and which one to get is how I found this forum. The rest is history

I'm such an openly fervent knife guy that everyone I know, knows I'm into knives so that isn't going to happen to me unless it was a long lost friend or relative. Most people I know who aren't into knives just roll their eyes at me when they watch me get excited talking about my knives or showing them off . . .

I STRONGLY second that. haha

I was literally laughing out loud when I read this. That is EXACTLY my situation. Anyone I know is never surprised when I get a anew knife...they just roll their eyes and say "of course". :D

Me and the rest of my club all are knife knuts, with loves for EDC; I'm the only one who actively peruses the forums though!

Nobody in my extended family even knows how to close a basic liner lock.... My brother is really into knives too. But he only buys fox, extreme ratio and rare discontinued SOGs...

luckly my father collects guns and knives. as well as my grandfathers when they were living all collected. my uncles all use their knives daily while i dont think they are knife nuts. and my little cousins have a modest collection starting themselves! fortunately for me i have a family of knife lovers and enthusiasts. they were the ones that got me into it after all :)

No one in my immediate family, and no one in my work place, either. All my brothers will carry one, as they see the usefulness, but I don't think any of them own more than 1, and most of those are ones I bought them. I get all my knife socialization here on Bladeforums. I do sometimes get to talk knives with a guy who works at a local Cigar shop that is into knives a bit. He doesn't actively seek out info, though, and has a thing for Mantis knives.

I am a bit excited to have a co-worker returning to my building. He and I used to talk knives quite a bit, and even traded back and forth. His team moved to a different location, but after 4 years, they are moving back, and I'll be happy to see him again.

Not in the family. There's a couple people at work and a husband of a friend of my girlfriend but they're all into the cheap/gimmicky knives. I think the nicest I've seen was a Bear Grylls survival knife and a kuk. The kuk was bought by a guy who thought the karda and chakmak were toy decorations though. I'm not a snob by any means but you really can't talk about knife design and steel with people like that.
