I have been looking at 2 knives. Please tell me what yall think. After reading here about Brad, not to mud launch, but I am not sure I want to support his habits. Any input is greatly appreciated. One is a Duncan aftershock ats-34 carbon scales and g10 bolsters.

The other is a Doucette tactical flipper S-30V tan micarta scales and black micarta or g10 scales, I can't tell.

I do like the color combo on the handle of the Doucette more. I haven't handled any of his flippers so I can't speak to how the action is.

I like the Doucette better too. Also, think about repairs, warranty, cost, and availability of the manufacturer/maker. If there were any materials failures or something that required adjustment that you couldn't or shouldn't do yourself you'd have to send them back to the maker for repairs. These things are important too.

I like the Duncan better. I find the blade shape more useful. As far a supporting his habits, that's a personal decision. As far as getting it fixed, a high quality blade shouldn't need much if any fixing. In the event that it does, there seems to be a number of members that will work on knives for reasonable fees.:p

I don't particularly like the blade shape on the Ducette either. However, I like the rest of the knife more than the Duncan. Below is a photo taken from the True North Knives website that shows my preference in blade style on Ducette folders.

OMG, just read all the posts on Jim Duncan--RUN, don't walk away! On TOP of all the people who pay and get nothing--others say they got his stuff and the locks fail, etc! Too many great makers out there to support a fly-by-night scumbag who doesn't deliver.

If you believe in the saying "Buy the maker, not the knife" - buy a Doucette. If you're just interested in buying a good knife - buy the Doucette. I also prefer the one that Keith offered - it's much closer in overall design to the Duncan you posted.

I have Doucette FB , very well crafted , nice guy to deal with . The street skinny says his folders are well crafted an tuff .
