slightly off topic ..... but the group here expressed some real interest in the teaching techniques that Randydb is using to instruct his pupils. Well.... I came across this article today in the Minnesota news paper the Star Tribune describing a "nature based instruction" approach being used by one of the districts in the state. Apparently they opened it, and almost immediately had to start a waiting list!

Randy - you are not alone!

Ooooh, thanks for that. "We were never able to find anyone who did exactly what we do," said Liz Barnes, a third-grade teacher." I will have to get in touch with them. From reading this it sounds like they may be doing a lot of similar things to us.
You all should see the three kindergarten kids that light the fire in the wall tent for me each morning. They show up early, get the cotton ball with vaseline into the wood stove and have the fire roaring in under 5 minutes. Only thing I do for them is light the match because the matches are damp right now and are tough to get going. I have to get a coffee pot and teach them how to make coffee for the staff next!
