hey guys, im about to buy my first rifle and im just wondering what everyone throws in their range bag when they go shooting for the day....i have a basic cleaning kit with cotton squares, a bore snake and plenty of CLP, a leatherman, rangefinder, and binos. ill prolly throw a decent sized fixed blade in their too. is there anything else you would suggest or that im forgetting...?

Hoppes, multitool, eye/ear protection, rod, paracord, rags, and my little ballistics sheet.

I usually am pretty limited in distance unless I'm in southern Ohio and when I'm in southern Ohio I traverse the hills on my atv as the property there is really big.
So I geuss you could say I have more of a range atv then a range bag.

Moved from General Knife Discussion to Gadgets & Gear. We have a lot of forums here, please learn to distinguish among them.

It depends on the range but some drawing pins or a stapler never go a miss if you have to mount your own targets. Sometimes a coin works better then a screwdriver for the adjustment turrets on some scopes. Again it depends on the range but some support for zeroing is useful. Bipods are obvious if your shooting justifies their use but bulky jackets, rolled up sleeping bags etc are all useful support if you don't have access to sand bags or other rests.

Knife and/or multitool (duh!) :D

Ear defenders & plugs
Cleaning & stripping kit (rod, patches, solvents, lubes, Boresnake etc.)
First Field Dressings & basic first aid kit
Front & rear (sand)bags for rifle
Legal paperwork (here in the UK I carry my Firearm Certificate)
Spotting 'scope or binoculars
Tripod for 'scope
Printouts of ballistic data
Manuals for weapons, sights, Mil-Dots etc.
Snacks
Water
Shooting mat (if required)
Breech flag (to show weapon is clear)
Rifle vice (MTM) for cleaning, sight adjustment etc.
Chronograph?
General repair kit of cord, duct tape, zip ties, safety pins etc.
Weatherproof clothing, e.g Gore-Tex, fleece (ranges are coooold...)
Whistle to call an emergency halt to shooting
Personal ID in case of emergency
Keys for gun locks, car, home

Spares of much of the above, as your dim pals will forget something...

he has a range bag, not a range flatbead truck. ;)

Bag one gets packed depending on what I will be shooting but will have:

Eye protection both clear and tinted
Amplified headset
Pro-timer
Target pasters
Heavy duty stapler w/ extra staples
B-Square Gunsmith Screwdriver set
Leatherman
Extra mags, moon clips, speedloaders for what I will be shooting
Ammo for everything
Markers

Bag two lives in my car:

Sandbags
Targets
Spotting scope with tripod
First Aid Kit
Duct tape
Small cleaning kit with rod

This of course varies from time to time depending on what I am shooting and what range I am going to. I will normally take a small cooler with water as well as there isn't any place to get a drink at our home range. I prefer Dewalt tool bags to the standard range bags as well. They are heavier made and don't advertise what I am carrying out to my car. My long gun cases are marked large enough to see from across the street that they contain straight edges and levels and such also. I rather people think I am a hobby carpenter than know what I do have in my house.

Targets,
stapler,
ammo,
ear protection,
eye protection,
extra clips if using a firearm that takes them.
Rag
Leatherman
