Joe Houser, when asked by me what was good @ OKCA, pointed out the last one of fifty Rangers made with vintage Macassar inlays and polished 425M blades discovered in the Buck warehouse so I snapped this gem up. Although made last year (11-09-2011) the tang stamp has the 1988 symbol.

I see that he is vending the prototype (which has square bolsters instead of the rounded bolsters on the 50).

Thank you for looking.

Those are pretty sweet. If you remember, they were offered last year in the BCCI "e-mail sale" along with a 110 with the same Macassar inlays and the 116 Caper buildout. The 112's were $45 and the 110's were $50. A member was limited to buying two of each at the time of the sale which lasted from Nov. 7th through the 11th.

Yes, they're beautiful (I have two).

But was this represented as 440C when they sold it to you?

That would be.......wrong.

Joe is selling the Prototype on eBay and this is a quote from his descrption.

"The model 112BO-6 was a run of 50 Rangers made with vintage macassar ebony inlays and vintage 440C mirror polished blades found in the warehouse at Buck".

Maybe Joe is confusing these with the 0112BO and the 0112BO1. Those did have 440C blades.

Well, Joe has a right to screw up, just like the rest of us.

But it should be cleared up that the knife in question in the OP is 425M.

Well, now that I took a look at the auction.......

Joe needs to fix it, because the knife he's selling is not 440C, it's 425M.

I don't think Joe actually writes up those auctions anyway......he has minions.

:)

I've sent a message/question to the seller questioning it. We'll see when/if it gets answered and if the listing gets corrected.

Thank you for the correction guys. I was going by hk's quoted sentence from the auction listing.

:D

I had quite a humorous exchange with that seller.

He has amended his auction at the bottom of the description. Too late in the auction to make changes to most of it, I suppose.

Wish I'd have known about it sooner.

That's what I assume.

The message kind of sounded like Joe, although I'd heard he doesn't actually do the selling himself.

He's a really busy guy. Maybe he should slow down and smell the roses while there's still time.

I think Joe must handle the listings himself. Here's his response to me.

Dear plumberdv,

And I thought I was an expert! ;-) Thanks for catching that Dave, I made a change in the item description.

I'm always surprised at the depth of knowledge residing in the members here at the online Buck encyclopedia. :) Thank you members.

A beautiful thought BG: smell the roses while you can.

This run of 112s look so darn flashy in person that I couldn't resist showing this one off a bit. I love to see pics of your knives so I try to pay it forward when I can. The email from Joe, back in the Fall of 2011, didn't really give me motivation to order them. Had I seen them in person back then you would have been wise to not get between me and these special 112s. The pictured one is now in the display case of honor.

I admire the acumen of those who bot this run in multiples.

I bought the max allowed (2) at the time and also two of the Macassar 110's with the 560 blades. Looking back and had I been allowed, I'd have skipped the 110's and got two more of the 112's. The black powder coated blades on the 110's just don't do it for me.

I got one of each and while the 110 is nice the 112 is my favorite of the two as well.

It was especially nice for me that one of mine turned out to be one of the odd dot stamps.
