Cool!!
I like the idea of securing it with the scews.
I have a thinner band on my 4 but it's not secured like that.
Thanks for sharing.

I love the look of that lanyard you have on there. Can you please tell me how to do that weave? Or shoot me a link with instructions or something? That's exactly what I've been looking for to go on my knives.

Never heard of Ranger Bands till now, I'll have to order some. :D

You can make some for really cheap. Get an old bicycle inner tube and cut it to the size you want. Some bike shops will give you an old inner tube for free.

if it's a real "ranger band" then it's most likely made of "epdm" rubber. it's not the same as a bicycle inner tube...basically, it withstands the elements/resists drying out and cracking much better then regular old bike inner tube.

a good local bike shop will probably be happy to give you a dead innertube, if they have any kicking around. dead tubes usually get trashed.

i suspect the screw holes will be the early failure points on this. time will tell.

Well I know where I'll be stopping on my way home today. A lot better then buying a new one and wasting the $$.

Thanks man

Ranger bands and make-shift RBs from bike tubes are very useful. And don't forget that small pieces can be cut off and they will burn well too to help get that fire going in an emergency.

Bike inner tube is a GREAT fire accelerator though... I use them rather than commercial ones. I have them around my Izula sheath and altoids PSKs to keep things compact and shut.

Funny thing is that these straps are popular among non-combat units non-military, and not necessarily used by combat troops - especially those in Ranger Battalions. Sort of like calling things "New York Style" in places like LA or Hawaii... may never be used in NYC. In the military, the best way to market things is to associate yourself with high-speed units like the Rangers, SEALS, SF, etc.

At first I thought the screw holes would be a problem. The screws are basically clamping the band in place and seem to keep the pressure off the small holes. I had to really torque on the band to get the stuff in so if it didn't break then I don't think it will, but we'll see.

Yes, I would vote for inner tubes also. As a cyclist, I have lots of old tubes laying around, and have recycled them many times for all sorts of "securing" uses.

Regarding drying out and becoming worthless over time...yes, they will tend to crack and such...but if you are using the stuff they are securing frequently, you will hopefully notice it before it advances too far...and replacement is quite inexpensive;)
