hey guy. been lurking for a while and so I figured it was time to post up and show some of my knives and ideas for mods I came up with.

first is my BK9. I've read about making ranger bands from bicycle inner tubes and using them on knife grips so I thought I'd give it a try. I decided to go with one long piece which made it a bit of a challenge. What I ended up doing was taking the scales off and held them together and rolled the band onto the grips separate from the knife. then I pryed them apart and worked the whole deal over the handle to get the grips in place. I had to roll the band back about halfway to get the center screw back in but it but it wasn't too awful hard after I stopped and thought it out for a second.

excuse the stained couch, I got it at a thrift store for $20. you'll also notice I added a strap to the sheath so I could throw the monster over my shoulder to carry around. I got the strap for under $2 at wal-mart in the camping section and attached it with 550 cord. you can also see some cord on the sheath holding the allen wrench for the scales. in the pouch is a sharpener and bic lighter.

next is the drop-leg platform I made for my BK2. I ordered an ESSEE MOLLE back and used the lower half and attached the drop loops with keepers to make it adjustable and a leg strap. after I sewed the straps around the plastic pivot on the MOLE back I added a stiff section of nylon webbing across them to hold them apart. I also used zip-ties to secure a leatherman wave to the front as well as the lower portion of the sheath to the back. just for the heck of it I added an extra lanyard with a clip to hook to the leatherman and BK2 in case I'm doing something really rough and crazy. the BK2 sheath holds the knife very tight so I don't use it most of the time since I want to be able to just reach down with one had and pull the knife out. the whole setup works very well for me.

I'll probably add a piece of inner tube to the BK2 like I did the BK9. I just did the BK9 last night and I don't think the BK2 needs it as bad since it's not a big honkin' chopper. another thing I might try is making a custom sheath for the BK9 out of scrap PVC pipe I have laying around. I've read about it and just saw a video of a guy boiling the pipe to make a sheath for an ontario SP8 (next on my wish-list).

I can tell where your priorities are...lol.

LOL yeah. I'm single and don't give a crap what my couch looks like. furnished my whole living room for $100 including the TV. you should see my gun collection.

decided there was no time like the present so I put a pot of water on the stove to heat the PVC and I can hear it boiling over so I'd better get to work!

Dude, good mods and welcome to the party!
There really is nothing like taking something awesome and making it perfect by tweaking it.

Though this does bring up a question. How has everyone "applied" their ranger bands? I know when I replaced the bands on one of my slingshots recently, the instructions said to use rubbing alcohol, and it made the rubber slide onto the forks easily. I was wondering if the same applied here?

I didn't use anything to lube it. I tried just stretching and sliding and that didn't work. eventually I took the scales off and was able to turn the band inside-out and roll it onto just the scales then slide the 2 scales wraped in the band over the handle. I worked one scale forward at a time and it went on without too much cussing.

Works like a charm. Dunk the handle and the entire band.

Am I the only one that expected to see the BK2 sheath attached to the BK9 sheath with a ranger band???

Cause that's definitely what I pictured before I opened the thread

I actually am planning on getting a 12" ontario machete if I can find the hard plastic sheath for it so that I can piggyback something to it.

I really like the idea of the sling on the 9. I've carried a machete like that a lot, and now that I find I'm using the 9 more than the machete I just might rig that to my 9, maybe with some carabiners or snaps so it can go off and on easily. Thanks for the pix!

well hey that's what we're here for right? sharing ideas and get new ones. I've found that for me this sheath doesn't work for carrying a BK9. I have worn knives this large on my belt before though. since the BK9 mostly gets pulled out for wood gathering I found this was a quick and easy way to carry it. I can throw it over my shoulder really fast and go off and gather my wood and when I get back I sling it around the back of my camp chair so it's always close. I tried making a sheath out of some PVC pipe I had laying around but it just wasn't working for me. the stuff I have is pretty think and just does not want to flatten out. I ended up "baking" it at 200 degrees for 10 minuets then I quickly put it on the counter and put 50lbs on it and it STILL wouldn't flatten out all the way even though it was soft. I'm going to try finding some pipe with thinner walls and giving it and extra 50 degrees and see what that does.

I just decided what I want to do for a custom sheath for the BK9. I'll have a custom kydex sheath made with eyelet holes and slots spaced the same as the BK2 sheath so that I can pull the back off the BK2 sheath and put it on the BK9 then using longer machine screws and spacers I can piggyback the BK2. or I may have to angle it to get the BK2 mounted. now to find a good kydex sheath maker...
