Ranger bands for BK scales

Anyone else simply use ranger bands for their BK knives? I'll readily admit I am a function over asthetics kind of guy, and also thrifty as well. I do like some of the aftermarket scales but I can't justify spending almost as much for scales as I did for the knife especially when ranger bands make the handle feel great and not slip.

Quite a few folks here do it, but I'm not one of them. Love the original handles as they are and have used them a lot (even wet) and I've never had a problem with slipping or even felt uncomfortable.

I've not seen that approach before. Do you have to use water or WD40 in order to get the Ranger band on the handle?

I did the same on my BK-7, but not on the others.

CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION!!! The most important thing is to COVER THE BLADE SECURELY. H2O helps, but regardless you will be putting a lot of effort into stretching this over the blade.

Especially when trying to put a long piece on the handle, it helps to remove the scales and slip(?) the intertube over one scale and then the other. Then work it back on the knife and when it's in place, roll the rubber until you can access the screws on one end, then unroll and repeat on the other end.
Hope this helps some others. I spent time and blood figuring out the technique of removing the scales to get the intertube stretched over the scales.

Yeah, it's an old-school fix for more grip, but bootzon nails it. Keep the knife in the sheath when you're stretching the inner tube.

Actually I didn't use any lubricant, but if I did, I would probably use windex and like the poster above said, it would be wise to cover the blade, you can easily slip while trying to put them on, it helps to pull one side then the other putting them on.

i tried it for a while, but found i didn't need it. the stock handles feel smooth and comfortable enough for me. as a side note, i ordered some micarta scales for my 11. they sent the large scales by mistake. they were sweeeet! i'd have kept them if they were in the budget. you might want to consider trying them out. they might justify themselves.

I have not used bicycle inner tubes (Ranger Bands) on my Beckers but have certainly used them on other brands that have an overt amount of aggressive jimping. The beckers I like just the way they are although I do have a soft spot for a knice set of Micarta or fancy wood scales.
