Any one have any experience with a ranger entry tool. Looks well constructed and is from ranger knives so it should be of high quality. If anyone has one or has handled one I would appreciate some input.

I checked them out the other day and liked what i saw... However if i had to pick one entry tool, as far as a hawk goes, I would go with the ATC VTAC...

Ranger has also made custom projects with hawks and entry tools. There are photos on the KF Ranger forum.

If I remember correctly, Justin Gingrich once worked with Andy Prisco of ATC.

I've been looking at the RD hawk, but want a longer handle. I've heard that ranger will do custom work and might get a quote on a modified RD hawk with a longer handle. I saw one that was up for sale here on the forum that looked really nice. I am also looking at the TOPs F.A.X. fast axe. I like the longer blade and handle length.
Thanks for the info.

I also saw the one that went for sale with the longer handle - very cool! Find out a cost, I'd love one.

As far as using any 'hawk for an entry tool, It doesn't have enough mass to be truely effective. As far as manual breaching, I'd take a Halligan tool anyday. After using both an ATC VTAC and the Ranger entry tool, I'd take the VTAC over the Ranger Entry Tool. I broke the hammer poll end off of a Ranger tool using it to pry a hasp off of a door. Give me a halligan, a shotgun or a bit of PETN.

Just the rambling thoughs of a breacher.

Was this due to not enough cross section in the tool or faulty steel? Did you discuss it with Justin?

I believe it was a matter of not enough steel. Breaching, as know, is the "science" of taking down door, windows and walls to gain access into a room/building. The tool in question was broken when I put my whole body weight (230 lb plus kit) into it to pry open a reinforced door at the hasp. The safety officer that the tool belonged to did follow up with Justin. I have nothing against his products. I have one of his Little Birds. I guess it's that I woud consider any 'hawk as a tertiary tool. They just don't have enough ass to get the job done.

Yeah I can see that as being not thick enough in a relatively narrow cross section. Wrecking bars and such for construction are usually much thicker and more octagonal than flat bar. I'd move up to about 3/8" for such work when you are looking at over a foot of leverage for really heavy prying.
