Hello everyone, it seems I got bit by the Ontario bug. I have a Ranger Falcon heading my way. Anyone have this blade? Thanks.

Well........ guess I will be the first to have one.

If it's Ranger Detachment (RD Falcon) then I suggest beveling the micarta scales and steepening the blade's edge considerably, which from the factory is so shallow that it really can't slice anything. Factory micarta scales are just too blocky and unergonomic. I used an India stone to steepen the edge.

From my experience the 5160 takes an extremely fine edge, so i don't know what everyone else is talking about. I'm using an Arkansas black stone and a Gatco ceramic rod. Also, the blade's paint is really tough.

Overall I like my RD4. The weight actually helps skinning deer and pigs, and I can easily smash through bones when I want.

Thanks for the reply, that is what I was wanting to know. From the pics and what info I could find I thought the handles might be a little blocky for some people. From the sounds of it 5160 should be close to 1095. I have a knife in 1095 that was also in need of reprofiling. I used water stones to thin and convex it. Now all I do is maintain it with a leather strop. I should have the knife in a couple of days. And I am glad to hear it is a good skinner, we have a lot of deer and hogs here in Texas. Thanks.
