im sending some knives in next week to get the coatings removed and satin finished and am comptemplating having all the edges convexed. i really like the qualities of the convexed edge and am looking for some opinions weather i should do it or keep it as designed?

Convex edges and really nice plus they are easy to keep sharp.

Who is going to do the convexing for you?

I would say that if its not too expensive go for it while he's got your knives anyway. The convex edge is easier to sharpen and maintain for me. What kind of coating are you getting removed and how is he removing it? Bead blaster?

Justin is a great guy, and his blades sure work better with a convexed edge. Helps them bite in more smoothly

its $20 per blade to strip it and put the satin finish on, he will convex grind it or regrind the factory grind free of charge

If he charges at all for that it would not be expensive. I have had him modify some of my original rangers and his prices are very fair. Just give him a quick call. And to answer your original question, I would have him convex your blades while he has them.

thanks , i was leaning toward convexing them and my suspicions have been confirmed. convexing them it will be

so i just sent them out this morning. ill post some pics when i get them back, i cant wait....

or you could be a man and learn to sharpen your own knives and do your own mod work.

Did you ever think that maybe this man does not have the tools, nor the time to do this work? You can get away with slants like this in whine and cheese, but not in General. You may want to take the time to review the forum rules and sticky threads...... :)

ive learned to be thick skinned hanging around on forums, anyways justin's prices on customizing are very resonable - imo. to satin finish the blade, convex grind the edge and sculpt the handles its $30 per blade.

and no i do not have any tools for making the blade a nice satin finish, ive seen some self modded satin jobs and i wouldn't be happy with it. i like nice stuff and for $30 a blade its worth it for me.

Will Justin stamp the RD series blades when doing the services. I have a RD6, and it bothers me that the knife is unmarked.

yes he does, no charge to me with the other services rendered. if you just want a satin finish and edge reprofiled its only $20 a blade.

i just got them back today and they look great. my first time dealing with justin and he's a class act just as i've been hearing. some before and after shots. satin finished convexed and contoured handles.
