Friday was Guy Fawkes here in the UK and my neighbours invited me around for a bonfire. Due to the fact I have been so busy of late I had still not had a chance to test my tomahawk so I took it along for a feeding.

As soon as I arrived my neighbours wife gave me a very strange look and asked me "what is that ?", after about 5 minutes of explaining she sent me outside and pointed to a pallet. Now let me tell you this must have been the daddy of pallets and made of some magical steel impregnated wood cos it was hard. The fact I had never used a hawk didn't help but I soon got the hang of it.

I started things off by putting the pallet up vertical and then proceeded to throw my beutiful hawk at the pallet. I managed to get a few turns and a nice thonk but not stickage and my neighbour looked concerned so I stopped playing and started hacking. At first I thought "this is going to take me forever" but soon found a technique. Instead of hitting the wood as if I was using a khukuri and used it as if I was tryiing to go through a door (hitting the hawk straight on into the wood. It just split straight through and a couple of those mighty chops just sent the pallet to hell. The hook came in handy to as I used it to pry the slats off and hammer the square blocks off. I took my file along and gave it a few licks to allow me to use the hawk for the finer chore of chopping some kindling. It took a very little and it was almost shaving sharp and I had a very big pile of kindling in a very little amount of time. Hawk performed better than I could of imagined and I recommend it to anyone and at the price I don't think you could find a finer tool.

Was great fun to as later on the lads were having competitions as to who could chop up 2x4's the quickest. Only problem with this is that the next day I found 2 very nice dents/chips in my edge (one of my brainy mates hit some nails and didn't tell me, my neighbour told me the next day)

All in all fun was had by all and the hawk performed very very well !!!!

Thanks for the nice comments and the good review. Sounds like you had fun testing out the hawk.

So what were the times on the 2X4 cutting comp?

Thanks again and enjoy the hawk.
