Thanks to Simco for helping me identify this knife, I can now show some pics after the work that I did.
This one in particular is a Pre-Ontario Ranger Knives Shiv. It's a beefy blade, but the edge geometry was very obtuse, almost to the point where it wouldn't cut. I changed the geometry with a cheapy coarse diamond hone, followed by a fine diamond hone. It now cuts things!!! I also re-wrapped the handle with non-gutted 7 strand 550 cord and it feels a lot better in the hand than it did earlier. Next task is to find someone who can make a kydex sheath for it, and then it will be given to my son for his fixed blade.
