Hi all, I just recently picked up a nifty little neck knife, its by the new knifemaker Ranger Knives. Its a bit over 6" overall, with a blade length of 2 1/2". The handle is long enough to get all four fingers around for a firm grip. Mine is a bead blast finish, but they also come in Gun Kote in a couple of different colors. The sheath is kydex and fits very well, I am in no fear of losing it in my shirt.

I live in a rather hot and humid climate here in San Antonio, so rust resistance is very important to me, this one being ti is a great advantage. The beaded chain is of a good quality and should last.

I wore the rig all day while out and about at the River Walk and it simply went away, I forgot it was there at all. The light weight of the knife and the absence of sharp edges on the sheath makes it a very comfortable rig.

I havent had a chance to put the knife to any cut and strength tests yet, but that will soon be corrected. Being a leather guy, its going to be cutting a lot of leather and trimming a few sheaths here and there, heck it may help make its own sheath in leather! :D

More to come as I get along in the review........

here it is! I like that logo.

RANGER KNIVES TITANIUM NECK KNIFE
Titanium in a neck knife? You bet! Titanium is non-ferrous, non-magnetic, corrosion-resistant, aircraft-tough and extremely light in weight. Ideal for special purpose edged weapons, the titanium Ranger weighs in at just over one ounce! The skeletonized laser cut handle is large enough for extended use and the blade is ideal for practical utility in any number of survival situations.

[Mission]

What kind of performance can one really expect?

I have used a Mission MPK-Ti. The cutting ability is above average on the plain edge for tactical blades, for the serrations far above average. The edge retention for the plain edge is solid on heavy work, and for the serrations exceptional on slicing gritty ropes. The overall blade durability is extreme given the very high impact toughness and ductility. There are only two drawbacks; first the blade is light and thus chopping ability is low (of course the low weight also gives it several advantages), second as the hardness is relatively low ~ 47 HRC, it can indent more readily than cutlery steels. Comparing Mission's titanium to 6AL4V is a poor comparison at best.

The Beta alloy Mission uses is very tough and expensive. I cut and grind 6AL4V titanium almost everyday. 6AL4V cuts and grinds easily compared to Beta.

We are planning to do some san-mai blades using Timascus with Beta as the core. The results will be fun to test.

I love my job. :)
