Don't know if it's been discussed, but can anyone who's owned either Rangers or RAT/RC's, or preferably both, a little description of the pros/cons? Since the RC6 isn't on the street yet, I guess just substitue RC3 or 4, and use discretion when it comes to the difference in blade length. I haven't owned or played with either brand of knives, just basically comparing these against my Sog Seal 2000 and USMC Kabar for general survival knife qualities and capabilities.

The Rangers are thicker and heavier - with a convex edge.
Made of 5160 steel which is very tough steel.

The RC-6, when it's available, will be made of 1095 steel.
Not as tough as 5160, but will hold its edge somewhat longer.
And it will be flat ground with a beveled edge rather than convexed.

Micarta handles on both knives.

If you're going to be doing a lot of slicing or very light chopping, I'd probably go with the RAT.
If you're going to be doing heavier chopping I'd go with the Ranger.

But either way you'll have a solid, really well made knife.

Boycot Ontario at all costs!!!!

but

Ranger knives is da heat anyway

RC knives are top notch and would make me smile as well

I'd say wait for the RC and get it with the MOLLE backer. It is beyond doubting that the RC series feature the best standard sheathing.

Then again, I freely admit to a strong bias. My two RC-4s are incredibly well made knives. I'm set on collecting them all over time and I have never had that urge before in twenty five years of buying decent cutlery.

Thanks for all the information and specs, its been much appreciated!! Kepp it coming if theres anything else I should know. I'm kinda leaning towards the Ranger, but if theres any other similar kives from other manufacturers that fit the bill, Im open to any suggestions. Im also interested in knives that have a varity of sheath/strapping options, as I dont usually were molle gear in the bush or woods.
