I think I have narrowed it down between the Ranger Ready Detachment Series 6 and the Scrap Yard Scrapper 6. I like both of the knives but need advise on which one to get. They are both the same price and overall look.

Here are some links:

Ranger Knife

Scrapper 6

Any advise will be helpful.

Can't go wrong with either of them, that is for sure. That is for the knife and for the customer service.

Best thing would be to try both, then sell/trade the one you like less, but not everyone can afford it.

What do you prefer for the handle? Micarta or Resiprene C? Because that's the biggest difference between the two.

I went for the Ranger, but the only reason I have is personnal preference.

Have you been satisfied with your Ranger? What is the main difference between the Rangers handle and the Scrap Yard Handle?

You can get the Ranger now! Justin will set it up for you and you won't wait long, I think after I finalized my deal with JG I got my RD7 in like 4 days! Assuming it's not exotic custom materials. He's great to work with (IMO one of the best)

It took me like 4 months to get my S6, because I didn't want to pay secondary market prices. Both are workhorses that will outlast you! Res-C is more comfortable for heavy chopping and S6 has that. Both will do just about any job, just one is easier to get!

They both have great lifetime warranties.

What will you be using them for? I got one, then the other
:D

Well I work for a landscaping company and need a knife that can stand up to the punishment I put it through. I also like camping and such so it needs to be able to handle water and all the dirt and grim that comes with it. So you can order the knives off his site now?

I bought a ranger at Blade. This is really a great knife I have used it a bit and really like it, fits good in the hand. Good price for what you get. I prefer the Ranger handle though the scrapper may be more easy to resell if you need to.

From Ranger, under normal circumstances yes. They are semi customs and you can get full customs if you want, but that'll take longer of course. Email Justion and tell him what you want and for what and he'll get back to you with suggestions and quotes. Ask him questions and he'll set you up. I tell you he's great!

Don't get me wrong I really like and appreciate my ScrapYards, Dan and Patti are wonderful people too but the demand is so high you'll wait longer (unless you get one from a secondary market).

here's my RD7 orange G-10 handles, satin finish (old production run)

they both do the job and then some.

So you think the RD6 will hold up to some abuse as well as the Scrap Yard Knives will? WHat are some of the things you can get customized on the RD6?

Yes. Handle material, blade finish, color, he'll fit it better if you have big paws/small paws, you name it bro. Just tell him. Of course the more he does the more it will cost and non-production materials are more too.

Have you been satisfied with your Ranger?

Absolutely, and I answered without any hesitation.

Here is an email I got from Justin:

"Options available are satin finsh for $20 more. YOu can chose different handle materials but depending on the material the price can and usually goes up. Other than that you can modify the blade just about any way you would like."

Well I like my RD7, but my experience with Ranger Knives customer service and order taking was less than positive. I still want to try the new line of them, but for now I would say go with the Scrapyards.

I have to say this is quite a surprise. It's the only bad comment I ever see.

Sorry to barge in on your thread, Lockheed, but this'll be a quick question to all:

On Scrapyard's site, the list the Scrapper LE as having a "Zero Edge". What is that a concave grind?

Ok, cool. And its cool Stretch, I dont mind. I think im going to order one of the RD6's. Can i just email Justin or do I have to get it from a dealer.

I'm shocked myself! First time I've heard that also sodak

Once I heard about somebody who wanted an older model RD with extra's and said he was surprised by the quote but it was going to be a full custom model then, not a production version, which would be way more work involved.

For me and many I know and read, Justin has been a stand up guy with quality products, I can't wait till my next Ranger...
