I think I have decided between getting a ranger rd9 or a scrapyard dog father but what I would like to know is. Which is sharper and holds a better edge, which is more durable, which is a better chopper, and any other info would be helpfull.
A lot of it is about ergonomics. You will have to find what works for you but you wouldn't be disappointed in the quality of either blade.
Unfortunately, you may have to buy both to find which one works for you then resell the one that doesn't. Not as easy as going to WalMart but we're not talking department store products either.
One of the blades in question was nearly unusable for me due to grip ergonomics - it ate my pinky to pieces when chopping and kept trying to shift sideways in my hand upon impact. The other is very comfortable.
I won't say which, since many people have had other experiences with the same blades. It all depends on your unique hand! Just like some people not being able to use a doublestack Glock 45 or 10mm - It just doesn't work for their particular grip.
Had nothing to say about mine. It was as good as I could want. I wasn't able to shave with it, but I don't think that something that thick could shave.
How much for a custom?
Email Justin (justin@rangerknives.com), he uses to answer quite fast. It's not that expensive for a custom knife.
Both are great. A DF will cost you about $180 if you are lucky on an auction site or this forum and an RD 9 runs about $109.
The DF is factory sharper, comes w/ cushy Res C grips, is a great chopper
The RD9 is a great value and has an awesome skull crusher with fat so so micarta grips, but you can sand them into the profile you like or contact Justin for custom G-10
Neither is better, but to answer your four DF, DF, RD9, DF. IMO
I think Im gonna order a custom rd9 with the blue black g-10 handle with a skullcrusher. The only thing Im still deciding on is whether to get satin or polished finish and if I should put a recurve in the blade. I think Im gonna have the edge taken down a tad to give it a bit more sharpness.
The best thing to do is to wait and think about it.
At this time of the year, with Blade approaching, you will probably not be able to take an order until next week. I just saw that RD6 are back order, so just imagine for a custom...
I was in the same boat. So I bought the RD9, then was fortunate enough to get my DF. I personally like the DF alot better, but that would depend on the users preference. Either one is a great knives.
