Hi Guys,
Here's another big chopper I just finished up. When I got it, it was a little rough around the edges, but had great potential.
First, here are the stock specs:
Specifications:
Just under 15" Overall length
9 inch cutting edge length with clip point
1/4" thick 5160 Steel 1 3/4" wide
Full flat grind
Extended Pommel
Lanyard hole
Linen Micarta ergonomic handle slabs for increase grip when wet
Handle slabs attached to full tang with 3 screws
Here are my modifications:
Removed the black coating
Reprofiled the edge. This knife is now a slicer and a chopper.
Installed a sharpened top edge.
Enlarged and beveled the finger choil (this REALLY improved the usefullness of this knife!)
Added thumb notches 1 1/2 worth so they're under your thumb in a chopping grip or when choking up.
Added serrations top (1 1/2") and bottom (2 1/4"). I left the top ones back far enough to have a short but useful plain cutting edge in front, for doing small delicate tasks (like cleaning fish, etc).
Broke all sharp edges (except the two that count!) and removed all "hot spots"
Bead blasted, thinned and sculpted the grips for better retention, control and comfort.
Satin finished entire knife
Included a brand new heavy duty nylon sheath, with large utility pouch, from Scrapyard Knives
Added a lanyard and leg tiedown.
I was VERY careful while grinding this blade to preserve the original factory heat treat. Before the final polishing and sharpening, I used the blade to chop a 2x4 into splinters. It works incredibly!
$185.00 paypal, or money order. No fees! Shipping in Conus is $12.00
