RANGER READY DETACHMENT vs BECKER COMBAT vs C S Recon Scout

IMO, buy a Ranger.

Justin makes both flat and hollow ground RDs, so you can get whichever suits your purpose.

Justin will thing the edge for you if you want it to be a bit more of a slicer.

The micarta handles are comfortable, ergonomic, and easy to customise (sandpaper or a file). The Becker handles aren’t very comfortable, and the CS handles regularly twist off.

Justin supplies very robust and functional sheaths with his knives.

When you buy a Ranger you’re supporting a stand up guy instead of a faceless corporation.

Justin is stand up guy and his products are bomb proof. I have beat on all mine and justin stands behind them. Plus for the price you can get a nice rd9 and 6 and be ready for anything...

What is a TSHTF knife? I would always go with a ranger before a becker and definetly before Cold Steel.

I ran a TSHTF knife thread about this just last week and RD series seems to do very well. In fact, my RD7 arrived last week, thank you very much Justin!! Mine is a flat ground and if it hadn't rained all weekend, I'd have been chopping down weeds that look like trees. I've bought other knives, but this one just screams to be used! IMHO, if I'm in a situation where this knife couldn't get the job done, I'd have a hell of lot more to worry about than not having a blade. And probably should be running like hell.

It balances pretty well in the hand (just a tad bit blade heavy which I consider normal for this blade type, size, etc.) the grips have no rough edges, etc., blade edge feels good, and it came with a very nice sheath. On top of all of that, I'm pretty much a newbie and Justin was great! Quick, concise, informative, emails and if you can dream up the modification to the edge, etc., he'd be happy to do it. Call the others on your list and let me know how quickly they reply and how accomodating they are.

In fact, don't call them, just order their knives instead and stay away from Ranger. That way, Justin won't be bogged down with work when I order my next RD ; )

I've got two Ready Detachments so far and they're awesome. Justin is a pleasure to deal with, too. Got my S7 RD-9 so fast my head spun.

Another option may be to see if Tom Krein could make a variant of the Crossada in 5160 or another tough steel.
