Hi guys. Just got back from my son's graduation from Ranger School at Ft. Benning. I took several Khuks with me to pass out to some of the boys. I have to tell you all that it has been a really long time since I've seen smiles that big. They were thrilled. One young man, who emmigrated to the U.S. from Poland when he was 16, was speechless. He tried to refuse the Sher AK, but I pulled it from the scabbard and handed it to him and that was it. I could tell that he was really moved. The four young men, my son included, are all proud of their HI blade. AND...because of all the patience of you guys always helping me out, I was able to answer most of the questions asked by the guys and surrounding onlookers. Thanks.

Ben

Those knives at the very least will be a comfort to them in some nasty places.

Rangers lead the way.

Congratulations to the new Ranger(s) and you too Ben!
Very nice touch with the addtional khuks.
Regards,
Greg

I'll bet you were so doggone proud you were about to bust. Congratulations to you and your son!

Steve

Vicks, I know the added comfort will be there. Sometimes it's the little things that make the big difference.

Thanks, Greg and Steve. I was so proud, I couldn't stand still. Heck, I still am. I spoke to several of the young men there who came over to thank me and my wife for sending extra food in my son's "care packages". Really an outstanding group of fine young men. I am proud of all of them.

(I guess I need to start the collection back up again :D )

I'll sure second that, Mr Bill.

Btice, I'm bettin you feel like your shirts don't quite fit like they used to.:D

Keith, Federico, Justright...thanks for the thumbs up and the congrats. Uncle Bill, they are some of the best and they looked even better with their HI Khuks. Pappy, you are so right about the shirts. I thought I might hurt someone with all the buttons popping off. :D

Me too!!!!
You've got a right to be proud Ben.

Thanks Yvsa. I am so pleased that he chose to serve his country to the best of his ability.

Being Polish myself I can understand his resentment to take anything from a "stranger". I'm 19, and came here at the age of 11.

Remember his rank by anychance ?...any other fellas with Polish last names ? Kinda wondering how many fellas of Polish origin are hitting Ranger school.

R

Radomvis, the young man's rank is 2nd Lt. There were several people there with possible Polish last names, but I couldn't say for sure how long they've been in the country.

Hey Ben

In his early 20's I'd suppose then ?

I'm actually proud of hearing that there are many Polish folks taking up Ranger school. Read about some of them in a Polish newspaper published in NY.
If you guys ever heard of "GROM" (Polish Special Forces) who are taking care of business in Qatar, the current commanding officer, a Col., went through Ranger school as well as other "special" schools here in the states. Poland is the fourth country physically active in Iraq with the coalition.

I'm heading for the Marines after college, anychance I get to take Ranger school, I'm taking it.

Radomvis

Good for you, Radomvis. The Marines are a tough bunch, but like a Marine Colonel told me last year: "If you're going to be a bear, might as well be a grizzly bear." The young officer from Poland lived in Chicago when his family emmigrated. He is in his mid 20's. My son tells me that he joined the Polish Paratroopers when he was 16. We talked about the Polish troops fighting in Iraq. He is extremely proud of them and rightly so.

Congradulations on your son graduating from Ranger school. I konw the Ghurka Knives made their day even more enjoyable and memorable. Did your son loose a lot of weight?? I lost 30 pounds when I went thru! What unit is your son with/going to?? God BLess, Chad

Ranger Class 2-88 Grad.

Thanks for the congrats, Chad. He lost 28 pounds and is recovering from frost nip in his fingers and toes. He is scheduled to join the 2nd ID after Jump School, but has heard through the rumor mill that orders have been placed on hold pending possible redeployment. He has expressed a real dissappointment at not being with the 3rd or 4th ID right now. I know that he would like to end up in a Ranger Batt. in the future. Take care and hooah!
