I bought my first Randall while serving in the US Army Rangers in the mid 1970's. It's a Model 14 Attack. Despite all the abuse I gave it over 22 years of active service and the more than 80 parachute jumps it has, it's still the best knife I own. I just bought a Model 18 Attack-Survival today from Steve Peters in Minnesota. Called him on the phone and got a great deal (much better than what he had listed on eBay) on a new one that is 5 1/2" with saw teeth. Are there any cool ideas out there as to the best methods for wrapping the handle? I would like to use black 550 cord. But I am not wedded to that idea. I want something that is cool, will work well, and is functional. Choosing between the Model 14 and Model 18 when going to the woods will be difficult. Rangers Lead the Way!

Ranger Mike, welcome and thanks for your service. If it was me, I'd use the search function here at BFC to find the info you're looking for on handle wrapping... :)

Hey Mike, I got mine from Steve too (but only cause I ddin't know Sheldon has a huge stash and he can be generous :D). I used 550 paracord on mine. It turned out pretty good actually. It hasn't come loose or anything ever since I first wrapped the handle.

Maaan, I'm liking that new spear handle type - is it heavy duty like the older ones were?

Sorry for the late reply.... It is heavy duty, though I don't know how the older ones were.
The walking/spear shaft comes in three parts that is screwed together.

Welcome rangermike76!

You have to share a picture of your #14 with us.

I'd say rubber tire inner-tube or a flat leather cord wrapping on your #18 handle. Paracord feels too abrasive.
