This is a rant after being disappointed by a politically motivated issue. Please take it in context.
So I hear about Maxpedition quality slipping a bit and decide to look for some home grown (well, in my case made by my southern neighbors) gear bags. I mostly find stuff made for three day hikes, military and swat, but Eberlestock makes (not really though) this nice little pack called the Mini-Me. It has tons of features and does all sorts of things and was just what I was looking for in a U.S. made pack.
Except that it's made in VIETNAM!
As I write this I'm scouring the Eberlestock website looking for anything that would have made me think they weren't just a marketing company (if your stuff is made overseas, that's what you are), and I guess the only reason I thought they made anything was that somebody listed them as a U.S. manufacturer on youtube.
Shame on me for trusting the internet.
I'm going to go back to being proud of my Maxpedition stuff, at least Taiwan is a democracy.
I GIVE UP on finding anything worth owning that's made locally. (Well, maybe I'll pester Tactical Tailor into making something I'm interested in.)
