So I was really inspired to grind some baldes today. I picked up the steel at the local steel seller, come back home and started profiling, when I felt the rubber belt that connects the motor with the grinder pulley was loose. I had seen this before but it was not so bad. I tried by all means to fix this problem but the only solution was to remove motor and machine from their wood base and affix in on another base. Lost one full day and will still loose half of tomorrow. Now that I was so excited with some new designs... Well, its my fault, I know, I should have fixed this before, but it coudn´t have lasted at least another week? :(

And yes, what pisses me off the most is that as usual, I can´t blame anyone but me!

It just spontaneously crapped out? What happened to the base to allow this to happen? I don't get it. I know what you mean, though. I need to rebuild my Concealex sheath press because I went fast & dirty and used whatever crap I had lying around to make it, which is fine, but it could be better if I substitute real wood for the particle board parts, etc. I have so little shop time as it is, it's one of those decisions of: do I spend a day replacing something that actually still works, knowing that I won't have to do emergency repairs down the road, or do I just run with it until it dies. Guess what I decided? :(

Hello, Steve

The wooden assembly were machine and motor were installed was crappy and started to loosen up. I could either find a way to fix this just to have to do it again in a few months or gete everything right for once, installing them on a metal table, and both possibilities would take about the same time, so it really was not a choice.
Everything is solved now but I got really pissed Monday afternoon when I saw all the parts laying on the floor and couldn´t see where to start...

Having someone to blame doesn't help much after awhile  I work maintenance at the county fairgrounds and wind up fixing stupid stuff like that all the time instead of getting much planned work done.
I suppose maybe its better when you can blame yourself, I don't get quite as pissed about making more work for myself as I do when other people pile it on.

At least your grinder was just an issue of wear and tear from normal use. Wait until someone comes to you with "I mangled this up with a 50 horsepower tractor....here's a 2 lb hammer and a worn out welder....try to have it fixed by this afternoon"..... "I ran this over with the forklift/roadgrader/front end loader/mower.....what can you do for it?"

Whats even more fun is when someone "fixed" it already and you get to clean up the mess. There's been a few times now when it was so bad I just refused to touch it and told them to buy a new one :barf:

Believe me, Matt, I know how you feel as I am asked to do all kinds of fixing for my friends, family, even ex-girlfrinds - after all, I own the handheld drilling machine, so I must be an expert...
I finally was able to have the grinder working again this afternoon, just to have to install a new eletric outlet for it, wich took me another hour or two. No I just have to get used to grinding on a sitting position and I am done.

Sittin down? Well now this might be the best thing that ever happened to you if it gets you off your feet ;)
I grind standing up, but after an hour or two of standing there, I start to feel it in my back. Have though a lot about trying to set something up to sit down and give it a go.
I spent 13 hours at work today (the county fair starts next week). It was running around in circles doing trivial bullshit all day  When I finally got a chance to get on my tractor and mow where no one could bother me I just started mowing everything I could and stayed out as long as I could. I was tempted to just head down the road and starting mowing things for other people :D
I might have to call my boss and tell him I'm taking a sick ("of your ****")day tommorrow :D
