The knife is a standard looking Camillus contract 301 Stockman. It is advertised as rare because....

This knife is a sample that features "Puritan Gold Bronze inside springs"

Any info on that or is it just eBay jibberish? 300Bucks..any ideas?

Your on your toes and I am not......went and found it. I have never heard the spring term before, ever. Notice the person did not show the springs.
Others just use search terms on the site as stated and it will show up.

Its just a plain run of mill, Camillus contract 301 in decent shape. If I am without knowledge on this bronze stuff someone in know educate us all.

Can't link here as it's a current auction on the bay, email coming. The photos show nothing about the springs, just a standard looking knife.

I'm going to contact seller to see if there is any supporting information.

While I know the listing is most likely rubbish, I must say it is a fine looking specimen of a 301 imho.

I inquired if there was any supporting information about the knife. Sellers response follows...

"when we researched this knife that is what that said about this knife"

I searched the Camillus collectors forum also and couldn't find anything relevant.

In all my years of researching 301's and reading everything I could ever get my hands on, or read online, I've never seen the term "Puritan Gold Bronze inside springs".

I bet she is talking about the Brass liners...LOL. We will see if they send some photo's of the back springs.

No, if you read the entire posting, brass liners are mentioned separately as a feature of the knife.

As we say West of the Mississippi, with women and children present......it's all "Horse hockey". 300

OK, I think I have solved this mystery. It appears there really is a Camillus/Buck Stockman with "Puritan Gold Bronze Springs". I'm thinking the dealer for the knife currently at auction copied her description from this prior aucton which is unrelated to hers. This knife sold for a bargain $75. Here is the link to the closed auction and a copy of the text and pictures for the original auction that ended October 14th. I don't know how I missed it.

Super nice older Buck USA model 301 stockman knife, features the black sawcut delrin handles, the Buck hammer, knife & nail logo shield, slanted nickel silver bolsters, the early 300 series knives were all made by on contract by Camillus Cutlery, this one is from the former president of Camillus Cutlery Mr. Nilo Miori's collection, it is in mint condition, it is 3-7/8" closed length, with brass liners and pin, this knife is a sample that features "Puritan Gold Bronze inside springs", the original hang tag is still with the knife, it is dated 9/20/73...Very Rare Buck collectible here...Do not miss out on this one....Good Luck

The seller on the closed auction is Steve Koontz---former SMKW sales manager. I would believe that the info would be correct, he has a lot of knife knowledge.

I got in trouble saying , "never" with Buck knives. I know better than that. It does appear to be the case, "I have never seen one, am guessing who ever bought it , I likely know and would appreciated copies of some good photos of it".......300

imho here is an example of something being so rare it works against the item. The seller on the bay had 0 bids on the item.

The auction that drew 0 bids was not actually a bronze spring knife. Searching eBay for a knife that matched theirs visually, the seller had the misfortune of picking the description of the bronze spring knife from a prior closed auction. No deceit was intended. The springs of the knife in the second auction were magnetic.

Ok thanks. It was still was a very nice example of a 301. My 301 are worn and battered. One I bought last year just to have as a spare. The other one I've had for about 30 years and it was a hand me down then.
