Hey folks:cool:,

I was wondering if there is a khukuri, that can only be made by a master kami and is rare and hard to find?

Regards :)

How is it called?i was wondering what kind of khukuri it is, when i was going through the h.i website.

That is an outstanding khukuri but i think one of these is probably much to expensive to buy. From all the models h.i makes is the tin chirra top notch or is there a elaborate model?

By elaborate if you mean fancy, decorative, etc then look at the Kothimoda.

Yeah i kind of mean that :), the type of khukuri that requires the most skill to forge.i will look for that khukuri you mentioned.

Edit: that kothimoda is very nice but the blade looks kinda "normal"!

Here is both a rare and special one. There were only a few made. It was bought by me, here on the forum during a DOTD on july 4, 2008. Something like this could possibly still be made, but it would likely have to be a special order, due to the prices of gold and silver being vast higher than they were back then. It would probably cost $600 - $800 or so now.

CELEBRATE THE 4TH OF JULY WITH HI HANSHEE KOTHIMODA BY ROYAL KAMI BURA!!!

Overall length -- 19''
Weight -- 30 oz
Spine thickness -- 3/8''
Full tang
Silver bolster and buttcap
Bone handle
The scabbard is done by one of our best gold and silversmiths Arjun in the kathmandu valley
Beautiful craftsmanship by Bura and Arjun

That hanshee is very beautiful but it would be to expensive for just one khukuri for me but i really like the shape of the blade. Do you think i can get one made for me with a normal wood handle?
Are there blades with more fullers than the tin chirra? I have an ang-khola and a tin chirra which is on the way, i really like blades with fullers or like the hanshee with very bend blades.

There are already Hanshee style blades with wood and horn handles that have been offered for sale on the DOTD recently. Do a search for Hanshee in the main forum. As for the fullers, the Dui and Tin Chirra are the most common. More fullers would probably be a special order.

That would be way to big for me, i like 18 inch kukris but it looks nice though :)
You have got good taste Ang-Khola. From what I have read the Hanshee is a classic fighting knife so it should be lightweight and have a long curved blade without a hard "break" in it's spine.

The above Hanshee Kukri is just under 51cms long, carries a blade of 39cms and a handle, excluding the bolster, just under 23cms or in the old school, right on 5 inches. My guess is this old Hanshee weighs about 600 grams (21 oz).
The Hanshee in the picture is of course not made by Himalayan Imports but is an antique. I always recommend people get an original/real Kukri of the design they like (if they can afford it) before buying newly made Kukris so you know what to expect.

As far as a Master Kami that's a hard question. Folks here have their favorites (see recent poll) but to me most Himalayan Imports Kukri are all made well and I have only seen different quality (lower or odd/unusual defects) in the BLEMs that go on sale.

The difference in weather a Kami is good or not seems to be in whether his employer demands a higher standard or not.
Higher standard = more work hours making of the knife and top quality control.
Lower standard = less hours on the Kukri, questionable quality control, and some unethical practices.

Personally, I don't believe there are any "Master Kamis" out there and the good ones are few and getting harder to find.
My advice to you is buy an antique Hanshee and buy a "Deal of the Day" HI Hanshee. Then enjoy .

Thanks sweetcostarica for the nice pictures. I like both heavy khukuris for work and lighter ones for maybe self defence or so but the only company that sells khukuris in that shape and size is tora blades and i have read, that they don't heat treat the blades properly.

I fear that example sweetcostarica although bieng sold as such, would probably not be accepted by many long term collecters as such. By hanshee standards it is rather on the straight side, probably rather heavy, as well as later made than most.

Some hanshee also do have a broken or angled spine.

Ill dig out a few pics to illustrate.
