Rare doesn't always = value

These are a good example of rare not always meaning valuable. The 173 and 174 budding knives. I've had an active search for over 5 years for the 174 and have only seen one or two besides this one, and they were in pritty bad shape. The 173's come up once in while, but not often.

They sold for $7.20 a Dz. in 1961

If those were a long-lost Old Timer model instead of plain Schrades... they'd be worth millions. ;)

Good point Rick. I buy knives that are good value so I can sell them and buy the pretty ones I want to keep, rare or not. I've sold some really rare ones, because the hunt was more exciting than owning it.

Market sets value. Not scarceness. Not quality. That can be good when you "scratch and itch" with an item few have and that you want.

same here guys.
i hunt for deals to re-sale to help pay for ma addiction.lol
it is almost as fun finding,as it is letting go.
i posted a question earlier about a 707uh with
the scissors.i recently found one and was wondering if they
were very rare,or valuable i should say.
you do not see them very often with the made in usa on them.

i love these knife threads as much as i do the knives sometimes.
great learning for me,
jd
