Then I followed the spring and found this spring house.

I just thought that stalagmite was cool. I wonder if theres a different name for an above ground one?

That is very cool! Thanks for sharing the photo. It is a little surreal seeing that outside of a cave.

Is it possible that area used to be cave and has since been exposed?

Cool pics - what was inside the spring house?

Cool pictures!

Well, stalagmites are just formations created by drops of mineral heavy water falling on the same spot over a long period of time right? Does that spring spend a lot of time just being a very slow trickle of water?

I dont know if it use to be a cave. Its a mystery to me how that stalagmite was formed. I think there is enough mineral in the water that it just formed and is still growing.

Inside the springhouse.

I dont think so , because a springhouse would not have been built if it is just a trickle.

This is limestone country. Lots of mineral in the water.

That's really interesting. That spring house is just out in the middle of the woods, or were you on a park?

This is the same type of thing... We saw this at Fairmont Hot Springs in Eastern British Columbia this summer.....

Out in the woods of Yellowstone STATE Park, part of the Wisconsin State Parks system, I've come across several former farm sites, razed, with foundations fallen into great disrepair. Decades ago when the State bought up the contiguous properties to make the parks, the buildings were abandoned, and the area around them allowed to recover.
