Rare Old Timer Electrician...on ebay!!!

The seller does not say where it was made, but the American Flag is promenant in the picture, so it MUST be American made, right?

Codger

I decided to send the high bidder an email informing him where it was made. If he is happy with it then that's OK but I would hate to see someone get a Chinese Schrade when they may have been expecting a good old US model.

When I saw 'old timer electrician', I thought they were referring to me. Guess they weren't referring to a real knife either. Will the blasphemies never end? I sent a message to the seller asking him to state where the knife was made. That little fact just seems to slip by so many peddlers of this crap.

Phil,

Your new avatar looks great!

I just have one question..........where is your margarita shirt??

:D

Bill

Ah yes, George Schrade hisself. I have been looking for pictures of Henry Baer with no luck. Anyone have some of those?

Codger

It was an inspired move on my part (new avatar) wasn't it? I bet you my entire collection of Schrades that George never, ever, not a single time, wore a marguerita drinking shirt. At least I cannot find the photo proof of it. Did he even drink margueritas? I doubt it, unless he made a sales trip to Mexico, perhaps seeking to interest General Francisco (Pancho) Villa in his cutlery line. The men were contemporaries after all.

In fact, here was my second choice: (men just don't know how to wear mustaches these days, do they?)

I would not let the american flag on the box deceive you. More than likely it is not american made.

I think Codger was being sarcastic. I believe all of the Taylor Old Timers are Chinese.

Yup, though Taylor Brands LLC. is licensing the names, trademarks, and patterns to a few American companies, and even shopping a few out just to keep us on our toes, the majority are made in China and hide behind an American flag.

Our best defense, in regard to current and future collectors, is to educate ourselves with research so that we know what a real Schrade knife looks like in all it's variations. Hopefully all interested Schradeophiles will chip in an do the leg, book, and web work on their own favorite patterns. I think it is what the Schrade and Baer brothers would want and expect. No more, no less.

True all we can do is educate ourselves. Its just makes me sad all the american companies that have been suffereing at the hands of cheap cutlery. Its also sad to think that its many american business men that are the ones cashing in on theses!!!

As far as I have seen the tang on the Taylors does not have a USA stamp.
Might be one of the easier clues.
The boxes have been made elsewhere for a while. True the USA flag should not be there but the boxes tend to get lost real easy.

All of the knock-off OT's that I have seen did not have the USA on the tang. That should be a dead give-away. It's against Fed regs for Taylor to stamp USA on them so it shouldn't be a problem in the future either.
