Guys:
I am a big fan of the flat-backed Malla, and had always thought that the blade would benefit enormously from a larger size, and had mentioned it to Uncle Bill several times. He was nice enough to forward the request with no guarantees a couple of months ago, and the Kami's came thru.
I just got my 25" Kumar-made wood handled Malla the other day, and have to say I was amazed at the quality and balance and finish. The blade fit the scabbard like a glove, and what's more had a beautifully polished blade with a very nicely sharpened convex edge. I have to say I am used to slightly duller knives and stupidly almost took my hand off; this thing is sharp! The wood handle glowed. This is a _great_ fighting blade IMO, and if you at all like 25" sirus or Kobras or GS's, you will love this knife.
The reason I mention it is Uncle Bill posted the horn-handled twin to mine on special 8/19 and it didn't sell! (See thread and pic.) I actually e-mailed him last night asking about it with the intent of buying it for my brother, but decided this morning that for a first khuk a 25" is probably not the best choice. I still debated getting it for myself, but if I turn into a total khuk pig and start reproducing every model I have in wood AND horn I might as well just sign my paycheck over to Yangdu each month and have done with it (not to mention get a new wife. Hey! Wait a minute...!
)
Anyway, the outstanding part, and the reason I cannot believe this thing didn't sell, is that a standard 18-19" Malla sells for $175, and Uncle Bill had this new 25" Malla on sale 8/19 for only $150!
So, I backed out on getting two, and know that for the moment there is still one left. Drop Uncle Bill an e-mail and I'm sure you could still nab it. I'm not shilling for HI, but just wanted to tell you that you can't go wrong snagging this guy. I figured in the rush of things folks just missed this gem so thought I would point it out.
BTW, as far as I know these are the only 2 Malla's of this size ever made, at least since I've been here!
Best Regards,
Norm
