In the 5 years I've known Jimmy I have never known him to take a day of leisure. Now that he is the first ABS Mastersmith in all of Asia, he has decided to teach Adam's dog Neva and my dogs Duke and Zeta how to kayak. Jimmy also took some time to play fetch with Neva.

Jason it was great meeting you and Jimmy at the show. Big congrats on Jimmy's MS. His stuff looked fantastic. I should have your knife back from Paul wed so anxious to finally play with it. Like I said it was a real pleasure keep in touch

Everyone needs to take time to relax now and then.

I think we are going to see some fabulous knives from Jimmy in the future.

Look's Like fun to me. Put the only thing keeping those dog's in that boat is the gators in that pond.

I found a 10 foot alligator in the woods behind my house today.... I show them my spear.

Nice thread!
it's all about the humans:), after all!

What is this spear you speak of?
(ok, humans, AND sharpened metal objects:D)

Great pics. I was very happy for Jimmy getting his MS and also the Best Damascus award. He's a good guy who has worked real hard at his craft.

Now let's see that spear.

Alright, let's see that spear! I've been trying to commission a spear for a while :D

That middle pic looks a little precarious, 3 dogs in a kayak! Did he make it back to land dry?

It was nice talking with both you and Jimmy at Blade. And thanks Jason for getting me on the bus. ;) :D

Though not thought of as gator states such as Florida and Louisiana, South Carolina has more gators than folks realize.

At BLADE Jimmy came by to have me shoot his portrait. He is indeed a very nice guy! Here's the image:

I have to tell this.

Friday afternoon Jimmy came to my table and put his arm over my shoulder and said " In the Chinese culture, when people go through difficult things together and survive ( I took it that he was refering to the MS test), they become brothers".

I almost choked up. Mind you, I was still a little fragile from the earlier events so I have an excuse. ;) But, It's good to see his hard work being rewarded and to see his friends open up to him like you are Jason. Lin

I always knew Jimmy had some relaxation in him somewhere. He is one of the hardest working makers I know. When we took the handles and guards class together it was not unusual for Jimmy to stay up until four or five am working on a knife with sandpaper in his room and walk to town from Washington. All around a heck of an example.

Well, you ARE a big softy(:D), but that is a nice story.

It's very cool that both Rodrigo Sfreddo(Brazil) and Jimmy Chin(Taiwan) attained MS status this year...certainly bodes well for the future of a multinational American Bladesmith Society, maybe the name should be changed to World Bladesmith Society, and the headquarters can move next door the the UN in NYC(I jest, I jest).

Meanwhile, there is much work to be done by everyone, in every country, to educate anyone who will listen about the hard work and artistry that goes into handmade knives.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Ok, Mr. Knight...let's see the spear. I am guessing that it is the spear I have heard about from Little Jimmy. Is your preferred method to hunt gators to use a paddle boat??
