Rare Police Model?

I have 2 Police models (one PE and one SE) with factory drilled laynard holes. I have'nt been able to find much info on this model except they may be somewhat rare. The SE Police was purchased new
in 1995 and the PE I just picked up NIB this weekend. Both are GIN-1 steel, no spyder on the clips, and in the old red boxs. So does anybody know how many were made and if they are anything special?
 
I don't think they are rare, but very early Police models. I think Spyderco started with Gin-1, then the name changed to Gin-2. I have a a Gin-1 SE Police, lanyard hole, and the "Police" name is etched into the blade.
I may be wrong about them being rare, someone will verify sooner or later.
