The rare knife and sheath is the Model 15 with Pancake Flipper sheath. I got it from an individual in Okinawa Japan. I have only seen one other example of this combination. The same picture of this other example is from militaryfightingknnives.com. It is in John Gibsons collection and has the following information "Randall Model 15. Made aprox mid 70's. The knife has a 5 1/2" Stainless Sawback blade with a Stainless hilt. The handle is black micarta with a Stainless lined thong hole. The sheath is a Johnson Waxed Pancake style with green lacings. The sheath was made especially for the knife. There were only 10 of these knives and sheaths made, with 2 going to a CIA Operative.." The same picture appears on the website randallknifeguys.com. I reached out to the Randall website and was told that these sets were more likely made in the mid 80's when Randall Made Knives introduced the Pancake Flipper sheaths for their Model 16 dive knives. I would agree with the later date, but I am not a Randall knife expert. As for the "CIA" information, who knows. All I can say is I feel very lucky to add a rare dive knife to my collection. My attached pictures show this rare knife with a Model 16. I have a model 16 Pancake Flipper sheath with the added strap loop on the upper strap area and one without as shown. They have "16" stamped into the leather. This model 15 example has a "15". Please show off any of your rare dive knives.
