Hell guys. I have been lurking around and decided to ask a question. I have been collecting some knives over a lil amount of time. I have always liked spydercos. I got my first from my dad on my 15th bday. I am 28 now. I purchased an older model from eBay and this is where the question comes into play. I purchased. http://www.ebay.com/itm/140848431721?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 is this a legit only 11 made knives? It has a letter from 1995 accompanying the knife. I appreciate the help. Robert

Sure it's legit it was from a distributor/dealer named John F Jensen who experimented with coatings. He also did some models with a black coating as well.

Is the knife worth what I paid? I'm hoping I didn't pay too much for it. Thanks for the help.

John Jensen still has a web site out there selling off the remainder of his back stock. He's down to obscure Mokis and Sekis now...

Well I never saw that one. I hope I didn't do bad on it. I'm just gonna keep it and give it to my boys when they get older.

Hi Bdblk12v,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

John Jensen was an excellent distributor for many years. He and his wife are good people. He did a number of specialty knives with us over the years. If he said he only did 11 pieces, I would trust him.

As Rycen said, value is somewhat subjective. I will say that, in the nearly ten years I've been collecting Spydercos, I've noticed that aftermarket modifications only rarely add value and often reduce it. The few exceptions would be work by known artists like David Yellowhorse and Gary Blanchard, and even their embellished knives seldom command more than original MSRP. Based on that, I'd say you paid considerably more than you could reasonably expect to recover if you decided to sell it. Of course I'm sure there are those here who'd say I've done the same for a few pieces, maybe even more than a few. In a purely practical sense I'd have to agree, but they were pieces I really wanted and had no intention of ever selling.

I received the knive today. I really like it. It doesn't look to have been used at all. The letter with it from John states that it is the first one that they coated.mi don't know it that is a good thing but there is documentation with it. I thank you guys for your help and info.

Might be worth contacting John Jensen if he is still around, he was very helpful regarding the varoius "specials" he had produced. In my case these were all C07 Police Models, but asking about yours can't hurt.
Phil
