I have seen all kinds of handle designs for Taylor Manila Folders.

Brass-skeleton
Brass-Inserts (rosewood, rough stag, smooth bone, Two-tone inserts)
Stainless-skeleton
aluminum-skeleton
even factory 3" models

I was just wondering which are the "rarest".
I just sent off payment to a seller that offered me this nice little piece.

Aluminum handles, some latch damage, aligned, and locks up both ways.
Before I tell you what I paid, I would like someone in the know to aproximately give me a value. Because there are plenty of times when something you buy is worth way more than you paid...

Thankx!!

Edited for stupidity...

Well, back in the '80s when they were being made they were retailing at $40. Considering that the handles are solid milled aliminum (not cast) makes them pretty strong, the whole knife weighs a tad less than the 42 so it's light. I don't know what the value is so I'm not going to pretend that I'm Gollnick. What I will say is if it was NIB (which it is not) I'd pay upwards of $100, with the damage anywhere from $60-$80, but that's just me.

Not much discussion on the subject of older bali's , huh?
Everyone must be frantically saving and frumiously chanting the mantra of all the new balis.
:)

Well, I would have paid $60-80 dollars for it, too. But I cave an offer for $50.00, explaining that I couldn't quite tell the latch/manipulation damage, and the seller said that since it does have some, he'd knock the price down to $40.00 shipped. :D

It should be here in about a week.

I'll post more pictures then.

Since it already has some damage, Yes.
I have a Brass-Skeleton that is MIB that I probably will never flip, but this one has been, and will continue to be flipped.:D

I try to collect manila fodlers in my spare time :) Gollnick really turned me on tot htem on his first shameless sale.. oh yesteryears.. but in my opinion the rarest would be (ironically) stainless handles.. I have NOT seen any of those...

but that's me mean I am not very good at finding these balis :p

BTW EXCELLNT price on that 420 :)

Not flip a bali, thats insane!(Unless you just collect them:p )
Sorry but if I had any knife I would have to use it a little and a bali would just have to be flipped by me. hehe

I saw a stainless one for sale on auction recently, but the owner had cut the latch off himself years ago. I think that is still went for over $120.00 I had (have) other balis to pay for, so I didn't get it. I think that I could fish up a picture if anyone's interested. (almost all of my "reference" pictures are copied and viewed by me with no sort of permission at all... HA! HA!HA!!!!)

I'll post some of my own pictures when I get them all together.;)
