Rat 1/2 early vs late lockup

The few Rats I have that are old OKC all have fairly late lockup on the liner. I have no idea of the validity of the statement but I've always been told that was by design. The lock was made to fail by moving all the way over to the right instead of closing up on your fingers. Again, I have no idea is that is true or not. Now the new Rats I bought this year, both 1 and 2, both show the more usual early lock up seen on most any liner lock.

Was this just a design oddity that stuck around and has now been corrected? Or was there something to it and we should lament the new change?

In retrospect I guess it would have been better to add some context...
