Picked this up last wk off ebay for a song, it is nib. Open build construction, AUS8a steel, zytel handle slabs, thick liners, lock up perfect, brass washers. Right at about 3.5" blade, high flat grind, razor sharp, as sharp as any knife I have bought, and multi position pocket clip. Fit and finish are excellant, has a really nice thumb ramp milled in with excellant traction grooves for a excellant load bearing purchase for material that may be hard to cut. Blade is relatively thick and the handle to blade ratio is excellant. Made in Taiwan, which ain't a bad thing. Paid very little for it and probably wouldn't have paid what they were going for when first introduced but for the mid 20 buck price point it is an outstanding value. keepem sharp

Thank you for the review. I saw this knife not too long ago and was wondering about it. You have confirmed a purchase for me.

I'll tell ya for what they are going for on ebay you can't go wrong. You might have to look but the one I picked up was like 25 bucks plus shipping nib. It is a very fine folder, very well made. keepem sharp and your welcome

Hey, I've been looking for those things!!!

Thanks a lot for this post. I just checked the bay and there is a butt load of them for auction/immediate sale. $30 and under seems to be a great deal to me. That beats my $100 and up rule :D.

How is the lock-up on yours? Is the liner of a descent thickness or have a good bite on the blade? How is the thickness on your blade? Is is about .125", that seems to be a standard thickness for a lot of knives.

I'm looking at the satin finish plain edge version and drooling. Thanks in advance, J.

Liner is decently thick, with excellent lock up. I paid 25 bucks for mine plus shipping. The grind lines are perfect, the thumb ramp is positioned perfectly and it is a very nice blade style. I can't find fault with it other than it is a "cheap" knife in price and well that isn't a fault really. I'll tell ya I have had very high end custom folders, Sebbies on the prod. side along with CUDA's, BM's, etc. etc. I have come to the conclusion that just because a knife is inexpensive in price doesn't necessarily mean it is a cheap or a not well made knife lets say.

I picked up about the same time a Buck/Strider with the black blade in 420HC I think the steel is. Thinner liner lock but the thing locks up like a vault and will not budge until you want it to, as in unlocking it to close it. Again I won this knife for dirt cheap. Even less expensive than the RAT folder. It was unused and pretty much perfect.

Now all this being said would I purchase either of these 2 knives at what they were asking for retail? The Buck I would but I don't think I would have the RAT folder. Wierd and I can't put my finger on it exactly but I think the caveat would be the BUCK is US made and the RAT is made in Taiwan. That being the driving factor. keepem sharp

Do you mean how fast is it to deploy? Well pretty fast and ultra smooth. Locks up tightly and the liner does not budge until you want to close the knife. My nephew used one I gave him to cut a deer Thanksgiving week and he said it work very well. The blade needed a sharpening but truthfully it wasn't as dull as I thought it would be. It was still hair scraping sharp although it needed to be cleaned pretty well. Liner lock on his knife is holding up very well indeed too. Uber smooth if that is a term. Almost to smooth when closing if that could be a cause for concern. keepem sharp
