These two will make awesome field utility blades. The fit and finish is excellent on both. D2 on the RAT and 154CM on the BM, excellent steels, excellent feel in the hand and good sheaths. Both in the $75 level, and the quality is of more expensive knives. I'm looking forward to getting out in the field with them, I will post more pics. I already whittled a quick fire board with the BM, this thing is so sharp!

The RAT-3 is great, I choose the tan sheath also. Showed mine tonight to a buddy just back from Iraq, he was impressed. Wished he had it overthere.

Gotta check out the BM fixed grip', looks promising.

they are making a fixed griptilian? sheeznits I am out of the loop....

both of those look like awesome blades. The BM's sure have good steel. my better half has a grip and mini grip that get sooo sharp after a few minutes on the sharpmaker

Awesome pair you've got there! My heart's set on the RAT-3 (not my wallet though) but the fixed Grip looks to be good sheath knife too.

You won't be disapointed in either. The fit and finish is top notch on both, they could really sell these for more money. After doing more wood carving, I really can't decide which one I like better. They both feel great in hand, the Micarta on the RAT and the choil makes it easier to carve with and really choke up on. But the BM is a little lighter and really just flows too. Oh well, guess I'll just have to carry both in the field!

tknife, thanks for pointing out the new fixed Griptilian. I hadn't even heard of it before, but it's a great idea and obviously well executed. What is the handle material on the Grip, and does the raised tang area around the scales pose a problem with thr comfort of the knife? Lastly, it looks like the BM sheath is ambi, a nice feature since I'm left handed. Is it *actually* ambi, or just looks like it is?

Thanks for any answers, bud. I think the fixed Grip would make a great field blade.

I own a rat3 and I really like it, used it for alot of animal work and small field chores. Held up great, and that D2 is reall toothy.

V- Shrake- yes the sheath is ambi, and there are straps on the back that make it possible to mount different ways or carry horizontally. The exposed tang looks like more in the pic than it really is. To be honest I haven't used it enough to tell if it will raise any hot spots, but it doesn't feel like it will. The handle is FRN, with rubber grips. Feels good in the hand. I think you'd like it.

Thanks for the answers, dude. The only thing that I really preferred on the RAT3 was the sheath, as it loks like a really excellent design. But while the Grip sheath *looks* pretty simple, the extra straps on the back make it a much nicer option than it first appeared. Both knife and sheath sound like real winners.
