I stopped into the Ontario factory store today and was looking for a RAT 3 to be my newest blade purchase. I was basically looking for a small, stout fixed blade for hiking and spending time in the woods. I wasn't looking for a big chopper, but something more manageable.

I had inquired about having any factory seconds in stock and was told that there were two plain edge RAT 3's waiting for me. For those who have one, you already know that this is a very comfortable knife that is very usable for lots of tasks. The edges needed some work, but I wasn't worried about that. The reason they were labeled as seconds was that the label on the blade saying "Ontario USA" was not placed correctly. The USA was mostly under the micarta grip. I could live with that for sure.

The best thing was the price. A mere $20!:)

I took two.:D

By the way, I'm seriously thinking about stripping the coating off of one of the blades and replacing the grips with some other micarta I have around or maybe some exotic wood like cocobolo, wenge, ziricote or bocote. Should look cool.

It's about an hour south of Buffalo New York in a small town called Franklinville. I was traveling in the area and stopped in. Bob, who was running the shop, was a great guy to talk with.
