So my RAT 3 just arrived two days ago and I was dying to test it out. What better way than to murder my christmas tree? I love the knive size, weight, and ergos. The sheath is a pleasant surprise as well for the price point. My only complaint would be about the edge grind... it is asymmetric which makes sharpening difficult.

The coating wasn't affected much by the green wood, but I was cutting green wood.

I've been using my RAT-3 for a few years now as a hunting/camp/pack knife, even made a couple of spoons with it when the deer were scarce and I was bored. While it may not be ideal for making spoons it did well with that task and every other thing I've ever asked it to do- its an astounding knife that keeps its edge far longer than I thought it should considering what I've done to it.
It handles being batoned through large pieces of wood very very well and is at home field dressing deer or pulling kitchen duty, I think that every knife enthusiast should have this knife in their collection to fill the small fixed blade category.

My only critique would be that the handle is a touch short for me but that would be easily solved with aftermarket scales if I was more bothered by it.

I bought an RC-4 because I like the 3 so much, it's also an amazing knife but the 3 is just more handy for all around tasks in my opinion.

Enjoy your 3 and Christmas trees beware.

Thanks for the look I have a RAT 3 also. It has been a fine little knife. I got it right before the esee crew split with Ontario. coating is still holding up.
